Old World Biergarten Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Huntington Beach

Old World Village restaurant has really gone downhill. The service was bad and the food was cold. So disappointing, especially since my husband and I had been there many times before and loved it.

The Service: My husband and I sat down and waited ten minutes before our server even arrived just to greet us and take our drink order. There were two other small tables occupied - it wasn't busy, so I'm unsure why it took so long to even initially see our server. By that time, we were also ready to order our food, too, which we did. A few minutes later, our server brought our beer, Warsteiner Dunkel (which was yummy - that brand of beer is always tasty), but no bread. My husband remarked to me about our lack of bread because he'd always liked their rye bread and he wanted some. We didn't see our server again until she brought our food, about 20 minutes later. When I told her about forgetting to bring our bread, she snapped back that we needed to ask for it, and we didn't so that's why we don't have any. Wow. Completely rude. Wasn't my inquiry considered me asking for it? There's also no indication of this "rule" on the menu or posted in the restaurant. And we'd never had to ask before. I wanted to ask her if she would have to ask for her tip or if she was just expecting to get it, but I didn't want her to ruin mine and my husband's evening and decided to let it go. She brought us bread after all that anyhow. But still...ugh.

The Food: The Beef Rouladen was cold (although the beef was tender), the red cabbage was cold, the spaetzle was cold. The gravy was so cold, it looked like this gelatinous, blobby substance sitting on my plate. My husband's was the same way. It looked gross, not appetizing. - C'mon! The food should be AT LEAST warm!! - We picked at our tepid, viscous food, while reminiscing like an elderly couple about how Old World was pretty good "back in the day" and discussing how terrible it is now.

The Price: The cherry on top was the $65 check that arrived. For two medium-size beers, two beef rouladen entrees, and "free bread" that included a hefty side of unwanted Server Snark, $65! 😮 For what we endured with the service and the very bad presentation of the poor quality food, this, in my opinion, is a total ripoff!

The love is lost here. I don't know what happened to the love, but it's gone. My husband and I resolved that we will not be returning.

If you're thinking about going to Old World, don't do it! Life is too short to spend a lot of money just to eat bad food and deal with jerks who act like they don't want you there. There is a plethora of MUCH better German restaurants in Orange County to satisfy your schnitzel or spaetzle cravings and make you happy. Go...

Had one of the worst experience went to the family event (Octoberfest) today Oct 28th. Literally was harassed by the same security guard 3 times! First time went over to ask him a question as soon as I said "excuse me" he randomly said "NO!" I then proceeded to ask him if I could get the stamp EVERYONE had ( my little sister and my dog were getting overwhelmed since it was so crowded" and I told him we were just going to go walk around outside, with an attitude he said "no! You cannot get a stamp because there is no reentry" as I'm seeing him look at people's stamps and letting them in. I'm clearly upset, then another security lady very nicely comes up to me and tells me "I'm sorry he said that to you we probably aren't doing reentry since we're reaching capacity" which is all the dude has to say and not give me attitude for a simple question I asked. Later we went into the actual building since they were hosting the dog and kids costume, as soon as the dog costume contest was over the kids were up. I took off my dog's costume since she's a husky and gets hot easily didn't want to make her any more uncomfortable. He comes over to me and tells me "you need to get out! No dogs are allowed in here!" I look to both my sides and a handful of dogs are still there and only tells me. Puzzled, but I'm still trying to "follow the rules" I picked up my food and stood there for maybe 3 more minutes waiting for my sister to finish the kids costume contest. I wasn't just going to leave her without her knowing I was getting out. She comes she's then now gathering all her stuff and we're getting ready to get out. This security guard again very rudely comes to me and says I told you to get out. I'm now upset at the way he's talking to me in front of a child so I say " you're seeing us leave, you're not saying anything else to any other dog owner" he then says "those dogs are allowed in here because they have costumes" ummmm... Are you serious? I proceeded to explain that she did have one but as soon as the contest was over I took it off. And again with no respect whatsoever he's telling us to get out as we're basically out the door and he's hovering over us. Absolutely no reason to act like that especially when I have done nothing to disrespect him. Nor am I drinking so he doesn't have an excuse to think I'm being rowdy....

Hoping for an unusual outing with specially good German food, we went to the Old World German Restaurant, located in Huntington Beach, CA, in the Old World Village. Being a Thursday, I must admit the village looked a little on the desolate side, but the buildings were able to impart the feeling of Old World Germany, I guess. We entered the restaurant above mentioned around 12:20 PM, and of course the looks inside announced we could very well had been in a typical German eatery. Four of us, two lovely ladies and two gents, chose our own table, met our ethnically dressed server, and in no time, mostly due to hearty appetites, food was ordered: the girls opted for the Soup and Salad Combo, $7?. One of the soups ordered was the Bavarian Potato Soup, which was eaten at a rapid pace, but later, final impression was negative. After taste, a fast exodus to the bathroom, it did not please. 1 Star. Salad was fresh and crispy, with bottled dressing on the side. 4 Stars. Split Pea Soup was average, finished completely. A little watery, 3 Stars. Zigeunerschnitzel, $18. It was assumed that at the very least, this variation of their Schnitzel offerings, would arrive breaded. Instead a piece of boiled pork, not flattened at all, and certainly not very sizable, smothered in a mediocre gravy of mushrooms and green papers, dropped the expectation of the dish to almost nothing. We had the good fortune of having tried delicious German food in the past, and this was definitely anywhere near to great. The sides, Spaetzle and German potato salad, were slightly better. 1.5 Stars. I chose 3 Sausages with 2 side orders, $15? Smoked Arrogant Beer Brat w Cheese, Nuernberger Bratwurst, Polish Sausage. I could understand that after a few of those delicious and huge glasses of German beer, these sausages would be easy to eat, but the sad reality was that not one impressed past the point that they were edible. The sides, which I eaten before in a much better place, sucked big lemons! Potato salad was at least a day old, and Cucumber salad mushy, aged considerably and both tasted the saddest denominator. 3 Stars for sausages, 1 for neglected sides. Bread at table thin cut, nice enough. 3 Stars. Water good. Service efficient, nice...
