@germandeli for all your German foods in OC - since 1978!! 7561 Center Ave #49A, Huntington Beach, CA 92647 If you didn’t know about this spot, welcome to the club. I recently discovered it, and had no idea how cool it was inside. It’s like you stepped into a different country. They were voted best Sausage by Hell’s Kitchen, and you can grab any kind of German meats you could possibly imagine - just any meats and cheeses, really. They have a pesto cheese that’s crazy good. They also have grab and go of all kinds of foods like paprikash, which is an amazing spiced almost kind of stew with chicken, dolmas, mac and cheese, sauerkraut - everything you want and more. They also have the most amazing desserts - their black forest cake is absolutely insanely good. And they make freshly baked bread every day. The deli all began in 1929 when Josef Bischof immigrated to the United States. To make a long story short, he was inspired to build a village that reminded him of his German heritage, and Old World was born. This is really a special place with more imported goods than I’ve probably seen gathered in one place. Some of the employees have been working here for decades. Did you know about it?! . . . #foodreel #wheretogo #experience #deli #charcuterie #german #germany #wheretogo #wheretobe #feedfeed #orangecounty #travel

Christmas has stollen my heart. @biergartenhb has the cutest Christmas market setup with imported goodies straight from Germany. They also have authentic German food you can order. Their chicken is a sleeper gem, their chicken paprikash is amazing (literally a German mother is making this in the back), and wildly enough, the cucumbers were my favorite thing. The market is super cute to browse and see at the traditional German items - I learned about German Christmas stollen, which is essentially our version of fruitcake. It’s baked around Christmas time for holiday celebrations and dates all the way back to the 1300s. They also have German glüwein, which is basically hot spiced wine mulled with different spices, and is a jolly little treat to drink walking around the biergarten. You can also check out @germandeli and get their Black Forest cake…probably the best version of this cake I’ve ever had. Insane. They bake them fresh every day. You can also get deli items, more imported goodies, Christmas gifts…there’s just so much to see. Did you know about all this going on? . . . #huntingtonbeach #hb #wheretogo #thingstodo #christmas #germany #germanfood #december #orangecounty #ocfood #feedfeed #foodreview #explore #discover #datenight #delish #huntington

Contrary to our negative view of the food we ate at Old World German Restaurant, our impression of the Old World German Bakery, located under the same roof, was totally favorable. The few pastries we brought home, including their version of Apple Strudel, and various pastries, plus their daily freshly baked Farmer’s Bread, among several others which we did not partake, perhaps fearing that since the restaurant experience had lacked true excellence in representing the very tasty German Cuisine (is the term Cuisine, a little far fetched, when you are only trying sausages, wieners, and schnitzels? Or are these delectable foods as deserving as a Bouillabaisse, per say? No pun intended, just honest curiosity) we assumed, incorrectly as we soon found out, that their bakery department, and perhaps as well, the Deli section, that displayed several goodies, was going to disappoint. Starting by the nice Simoene?, and the $30 plus we bought, the Farmer’s Bread very good, we admit here and now, that we would purchase again, if only it was not the new year, and our assertive collective commitments to cut down on all the good stuff, was not so easy to break! Health or no health. I wanted fresh Pumpernickel bread, which apparently is a tall order, and is hard to come by, specially a good one. They had the pre packaged varieties, but it has been my experience, that by the time they clear customs, and arrive to a shelf near me, quality has decreased accordingly, but can anyone imagine, a freshly made that tasted just as good. Germans are very strict on conserving the rules of several food products they are famous for, and Pumpernickel bread is no exception. I am going to call a talented baker with European background, if possible, and find out if they might take special requests. Apologize for the detour. Good bakery, nice help. 4.5 Stars.

To summarize...your online service is HORRIBLE. DETAILS: Finding this place online, it looked great. I had a desire to order some meat spreads and cheese to enjoy for breakfast. I placed the order on a Friday, taking note that they don't ship except on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. So I waited until the following week, expecting some shipment notice. Nothing. I called on Thursday (and many times afterwards) and it just goes straight to voicemail. NEVER ONCE did I get anyone on the phone when selecting the option to check my order. Straight to voicemail EVERY TIME. So I thought maybe they would ship it the 2nd week. The second week comes and goes and no notification. I try again to get someone on the phone and again, every try goes straight to voicemail. I left a voicemail with my order number, name, and phone number with a request that they call me back to update me. I never received any call back. The 3rd week I did not get any notification of shipment. I finally decided to give up on their "customer service" number. I called the storefront directly and got in touch with someone at the cash register. They were very apologetic and appeared to be helpful (more on that later). I gave them my order number/name/phone number and they apologized and said they would take it straight to the manager and that they "Were sure that the manager will get back with you immediately". I never got a call back. I called again to the storefront a few days later. Another lady profusely apologized for the situation. I again gave my information and they said that someone would call me back very soon to resolve the issue. I never received a call. They also told me that the manager had been sick recently and maybe that was the reason (But I placed my order 3 weeks before...have they been sick for 3 weeks?) They also mentioned that some in their shipping department may have been sick (What's going on at this place?) After waiting a few more days and losing patience, I called the storefront again. The lady that answered the phone said that I was in luck because the store manager was there that day, along with several other visiting higher-up managers. She said she would take my information and immediately give it to the manager and that she was "Sure that it would be handled very quickly". I received NO CALL BACK. I waited another few days and made one last call to the storefront. I gave the lady my order number and told them to either ship it and give me the tracking info or cancel my order. The next day, no one called me back, but I received tracking information on my order via email. 2 days later I received the package. When I opened it, the limburger cheese I had ordered had fully melted and had coated all of the other items in the box. The meat products were all at room temperature.

A little advice for your store. Take a look at where the product is being shipped. If you can't keep meat products cold enough to arrive at the destination while still cold, do one of two things:

  1. You've got enough experience with shipping cold-sensitive food products. If your company, with it's experience shipping such items, thinks the items won't arrive cold, THEN TELL THE CUSTOMER. GIVE THEM THE OPTION TO NOT PURCHASE THE ITEMS IF THEY CAN'T BE GUARANTEED TO ARRIVE at a food-safe temperature!
  2. If a package is being delivered farther away/cross-country, think about adding a better method or a larger quantity of cooling packs or dry ice so that you can assure your products arrive in good condition.

Lastly, please...for the love of German food...do something about your...

I recently had the pleasure of attending a performance by Marko, a multitalented one-man band musician, at The Old World Restaurant in Huntington Beach, California. The evening was an extraordinary blend of traditional German music and Marko’s exceptional talent, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

From the moment Marko took the stage, his musical prowess was evident. He seamlessly transitioned between playing the alpenhorn, trumpet, and synthesizer, all while singing in more than six languages, including the most famous German songs. His ability to master multiple instruments and languages was nothing short of impressive and added a unique charm to the performance.

The atmosphere at The Old World Restaurant was vibrant and welcoming, with patrons enjoying authentic German cuisine and a wide selection of beers. The decor, reminiscent of a traditional Bavarian beer hall, provided the perfect backdrop for Marko’s performance. The audience was fully engaged, clapping along and even joining in for some of the well-known tunes.

One of the highlights of the evening was Marko’s rendition of “Ein Prosit,” a traditional German drinking song that had everyone raising their glasses and singing along. His energetic performance and genuine connection with the audience created a lively and festive atmosphere.

Overall, Marko’s performance was a testament to his incredible talent and passion for music. His ability to bring traditional German songs to life in such an engaging and entertaining manner made for an unforgettable evening. If you have the opportunity to see Marko perform at The Old World Restaurant, I highly recommend it – you won’t be...
