This is my 1st and will be my last time here. I ordered a sandwich and some extras online and a few minutes later went to pick it up. The store was empty except for 1 employee that was taking his sweet time cleaning out their main garbage and changing its bags, as I waited at the counter to retrieve my order. He went to the back, giant garbage in hand, and emerged literally TWO SECONDS LATER, with the tips of his fingers barely wet, dabbing on a paper towel. I politely said, "I will wait for you to wash your hands before you serve me my order". He said that he washed them. I responded that dabbing his fingers in running water does not count as "washing" and I asked him to wash his hands properly before serving food. He said, "trust me, I washed them". I again responded that I watched him clean out the large garbage and that he spent exactly 2 seconds in the back (which also included disposing of the garbage) and that I am very uncomfortable that he prepares and serves food until he washes he hands. He refused. I then told him DO NOT touch my food and just pass me my order, as it's been paid. He then started to open my prepared bag of food that I ordered! I said loudly STOP TOUCHING MY FOOD! I asked you not to since you didn't wash your hands. Stop touching or handling anything in my order! He said he wanted to check it again. I said I don't care, before you even opened it I told you not to, as you started to anyway I repeatedly said stop and you still did! Any one working in food service knows that you must properly wash your hands thoroughly. The CA Retail Food Code states, at minimum: "...all EMPLOYEEs shall thoroughly wash their hands and that portion, if any, of their arms exposed to direct FOOD contact with cleanser and WARM WATER by vigorously rubbing together the surfaces of their lathered hands and arms for at least 10 to 15 seconds and thoroughly rinsing with clean running water followed by drying of cleaned hands and that portion, if any, of their arms exposed."
I AM DISGUSTED AND INFURIATED. Management will be hearing from me, as will the Orange County Dept of...
Read moreI was poisoned by the misleading menu and the uneducated and laissez faire staff. First of all the menu begins saying that have 100% gluten free options- and literally no other notations on the menu to indicate that they only actually have one gluten free option. I asked repeatedly about the items I ordered being gluten free and the guy just went along with me agreeing they were. I ordered a bagel and cream cheese and a breakfast bowl. Half way through eating the bagel I said to myself- this tastes way too good to be gluten free- and I went to double check. Imagine that. The bagel in fact was NOT gluten free and neither was the breakfast I ordered. I am now sick- and really appalled that this could happen at such a nice establishment. I have a legitimate gluten allergy and now - I'm laying on my couch sick because I was poisoned by this restaurant. The manager did what he could for me- and it's not his fault. I got my money back- and he made me a GF sandwich i could eat- but it does not forgive how serious this issue is-and how they didn't seem to take it seriously. I felt like I was being "difficult" when I am the one who was mislead on every level by this place and now has to be sick for the next 24 hours or so because someone didn't care to take their jobs seriously. That menu needs to be rewritten and I would love to speak to the owner of the place and give them a piece of my mind. I've been celiac for 7 years and the is the first time I've been purposely poisoned by a restaurant. Ignorance is no excuse when you advertise GF options- especially when the menu starts off saying you have 100% GF options. Ridiculous....
Read moreLove this place! Conveniently across from the Huntington Pier. Don't have to walk all the way to Starbucks on Walnut and wait in the horrendous line. I came here for a media tasting on their breakfast offerings. Really liked :
RICOTTA TOMATO TOAST - our own herbed ricotta with marinated tomatoes, housemade pesto and parmesan cheese on toasted ciabatta.(If you want something simple)
FULL MONTY - Ham, swiss and scrambled eggs are placed on french toast and finished with wild strawberry jam and sprinkled with powdered sugar. (If you want something indulging)
GREEN EGGS AND HAM - Ham, swiss and scrambled eggs on toasted brioche and finished with fresh arugula that has been tossed with house-made fresh basil pesto (If you want something that just tastes good! )
They use bread from OC Baking company, has gluten free options, serves up Kean Coffee, even have pour overs! Now opens at 7am and of course still serves up salads and soups. Most of the sauces are made from scratch.
Inside the deli, you can see a wall tv, some counter space around the walls, and a couple of tables. It's not big but big enough to get your food, get some hot coffee and go watch some waves.
Parking can be kind of a pain, exactly how it is when you're in downtown area but free residential parking does exist if you're willing to look or walk...
