We made reservations for a graduation celebration dinner and were asked to come in 15 minutes early. Rushed from ceremony to the restaurant only to be told to wait until a specific table was finished. 30 minutes later and TWO large parties seated before us, one at the specific table we were told we had to wait for...then we were told we would have to wait again but for a different table that had just started eating. I tried to discuss our concerns as our son graduating was getting more and more uncomfortable about the situation and was now asking to go somewhere else. The hostess asked us to understand that the parties seated before us would only fit at certain tables based on how full the teppan tables currently were. She got the sushi chef who came out and bruskly said you have to wait, threw his arms up and walked away. The hostess said, well, they made the reservation the day before you even though it wasfor a later time and dismissed us. We are regular customers and have watched the portions and quality decreaseas the prices increase. No more, it's just not worth it... especially after their total disregard for our ruined dinner...

Great service and the food was okay but the issue was with the over bearing smoke and fumes. The range hood fans were on high but this place is too small or they need to clean the filters or something because the whole place filled with the smell of burnt oil from all the cooking and made me sick. Most high end teppan places have higher ceilings or a bigger teppan area. Not sure what the issue was the day we went. Maybe some bad cooks burning oil. Either way it was awful. Couldn’t wait to get the check and get out of there. Service was really good though. Won’t be back unfortunately due to the lack of exhaust fans for all the cooking with...

First off the restaurant is great to have wonderful food but I did not like how when me and my wife called ahead for reservations on the 7th and she called to check if I reservation was good for Valentine's Day the person on the phone made it seem like we didn't have a reservation. I would have appreciated if they would have said we're not doing reservations that day. So I feel the reservation system needs to be worked on and improved greatly so that the situation will never happen to anybody else other than that the food was really good and the service...

@shima_japanese is a spot I’ve been to a ton of times, so thought I’d share. I’ve actually never been to Benihana…but I am told this is the same experience, if not better. You start of with a salad and miso soup - I love their zesty salad dressing. Then the chef cooks up your rice while performing a bunch of nifty tricks. Then you get your protein of choice - shrimp, chicken, steak, scallops, etc. You can also get yourself some sake, wine, or beer, and finish with a dessert. If you’re not in a “cooked right in front of you” mood, you can also get sushi. Ever heard of this spot?? . . . #huntingtonbeach #hb #japanese #orangecounty #datenight #foodreel #feedfeed #thingstodooc

Great food 🥩🥗🍺 Shima & Filet steak, scallops, shrimp, fried rice, and veggies were yummy but $$$ Shima is as expensive as Benihana. Four of us had dinner and our bill was over $200; that was for 4 entrees, 1 beer, 2 sodas and a water and one shrimp tempura roll.. Also, there was not much of a show beyond the steaming onion and one line of fire 🔥. For the price, I was disappointed. #letsguide #womenwhoguide #LocalGuides #googleguides #shimahuntingtonbeach #shima #shimahb

The chef's personality definitely made up for the poor service. The waiter called my mother's hair wild because apparently he's never seen a Black woman with an afro. I told him that just because our hair isn't caucasian does not make it wild. He then proceeded to make a disrespectful reference that I shut down immediately. What's wild to me is having a hairline pushed back like the McDonald's arches and having the audacity to speak on anyone else.
