Laura and I were nearby at The Donuttery and seriously craving some meaty savoury food, so we walked on over to Trejo's. The restaurant is pretty small and is set up so you order at the front counter and then later pick up your food from the side. She got the Al Pastor Burrito while I went with the Carnitas Burrito. I forgot to take a picture of the menu so I unfortunately cannot tell you exactly what was in the burrito. It does come with complimentary chips and you can help yourself to the salsa bar, which is nice. The burritos are $5.99+tax, but I paid a little more for mine since I added in avocado (unfortunately no guacamole is available here).
There is one TV in the restaurant that was playing recaps of the World Cup games in Spanish. The salsa bar had several different types of salsa in addition to peppers and onions. Since we were really hungry, we devoured our burritos quickly once they came out and in total silence. Laura's burrito looked quite juicy but mine was really dry and required the addition of salsa for almost every bite. The burrito was by no means amazing or delicious, but it was decent and got the job done. I think Laura was fine with her burrito at the time but she noted that she had an upset stomach later on in the evening and attributes it to the burrito.
There seemed to be two people working--a young adult male (who took our order) and then an older woman (maybe his mother?). The man was pretty friendly whenever we interacted. Overall our experience here was just okay. We would have gone somewhere else except we were really desperate for food. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 since they came through in our...
Read moreDidn't impressed me at all, I was told the mixed tacos were like so good and all, but I didn't even find them ok, they were super greasy, and I thought since it was "mixed" it would have like two or three different kind of meat (which to be honest, just because it was recommended I wanted to try; cause different kinds of meat in one single taco it's like... hmmm¿?) But it was just pork carnitas, and even tho it was decently big and one would fill my appetite, it wasn't what I was expecting, if anything it was nothing at all good, I don't understand how they have that much clientele(?) Or may be it's just me, that i'm used to other kind of tacos, but any how, for me, this is not that good. You can try, but don't expect the best tacos ever, they are just not that good. And like I said, not even good actually. I would rather go to a taco truck than this place. And they take forever for one order of three tacos! Customer service is not even friendly. I do...
Read moreWanted some Mexican food and wanted to try new places I've never been before. Came upon this little place on beach boulevard, and it's literally one of those places where if you blink, you'll completely miss it.
Now, I don't think this store has any relations to Danny Trejo and his taco chain restaurant, but I think it was still pretty good when it came to the food taste wise. However, $5+ for a singular taco is a little much in my opinion, so I may be back for street tacos, which are $1.50 on Fridays and Saturdays. Disappointed with the taco prices, I ended up with a birria burrito, which was hot, and fresh with all the right ingredients and the meat was super tender.
The place is pretty close to authentic, though the choice to sell birria ramen is a little bit questionable.
Other than that, we had some pretty good service and the place is really...
