In my opinion, there are fewer things better than a classic burger to get you through a fun evening, and the Peppered Pig delivers.
Peppered Pig Food
If you’re a fan of a thick patty, quality toppings, and plenty of flavor, absolutely give this one a try. These burgers are thick, fresh, and tender, a mainstay of the area for more than ten years now. Keep in mind, these are award-winning burgers, fries, and sandwiches, so you can expect quality.
Wings
Now, I know the main event here is the burgers, but we have to talk about these wings first. We ordered some wings to give them a try, and what a treat. These are some hefty wings, too—plenty of meat on each of them, enough to make a meal on their own.
We picked the buffalo sauce for the wings, which was surprisingly sweet, in the best way. Tangy, smooth, and just a little sweet, these wings were gone in a heartbeat.
Classic Plain Jane Burger
Let’s start with a classic—the Plain Jane. Offered as a simple, no-frills option for those who like the patty and bun most of all, one of our party decided to keep it easy with this one (plus a little lettuce, tomato, and cheese). Don’t let its simplicity fool you: this burger packs a ton of flavor in a high-quality 8-ounce burger patty, balanced with a soft, flavorful bun.
Mushroom and Swiss Burger
If you like a mushroom and Swiss cheese burger, this is absolutely the sandwich for you. Of course, their version of this classic burger is a little bit fancier, which adds a little extra kick to the sandwich; their burgers have shiitake, button, and baby bella mushrooms on top. I didn’t expect this to make as much of a difference as it does, but it adds a dimension to the flavor I didn’t expect.
The Bulgogi Burger
Now, there wasn’t a burger I didn’t like here, but this one? This is easily the best on the menu, in my opinion. If you’re a fan of Korean barbecue sauce and kimchi, run, don’t walk. This burger packs a new level of complex flavors and textures that build on one another like they were made to be on a burger.
What’s for Dessert?
The Peppered Pig is known for its entrees, but their fried pies are not to be missed. We tried the chocolate fried pie, and when I use the word “decadent,” I don’t mean it lightly, but I do mean it in the best way. These little pies are full of melted, soft milk chocolate, with a portion of whipped cream for dipping and a strawberry to complement the decadently sweet chocolate.
Unfortunately, as beautiful a dessert as this was, it did not survive long enough for pictures—shortly after we received it, the table set upon it like wolves. Still, that’s a vote of confidence in my book, so be sure you save a little room for dessert when you visit.
Don’t Miss Out on Their Tasty Deal Days
First, watch out for slider Tuesdays. Every Tuesday, they offer a trio of sliders of their burger options. That gives you a chance to try them all, share with friends, and choose your favorite! They also offer wing options on Wednesdays, which also offer a variety of sauces to sample, so you can get a taste of everything they have to offer.
Keep an eye on their social media as well for recent menu additions and short-term offers. They frequently offer limited-time desserts, new dishes, and options for customers to try out, so you might have...
Read moreI've been trying each and every restaurant in Huntsville, all except for seafood. Peppered Pig came up on my radar when looking for a good burger spot. I have to say that by far, especially per its prices, Peppered Pig was the worst in that category. I can't even say one thing was wrong as just about everything during my visit was subpar to bad. The service was very rude, which was a first since moving to Huntsville. When I asked about the menu items, the person at the counter deferred all my questions to the menu. Menus don't talk. Lol. So that set the tone for what was to be a horrible visit. When I finally chose something based on the quick summary on the menu, it was very pricey for what you received. You pay and take a seat. The meal took about 30 minutes. Yup, thirty minutes on a not so busy time. The restaurant was less than half full, so it was definitely not busy at all. While waiting for my food, I had hot sweet tea because the ice machine was broken & when told about it, the staff just shrugged their shoulder's. Another big lol on my part. One customer figured out that if you stick a plastic knife up the dispenser shaft, it let out a few cubes but would promptly stop. From what I heard from an employee was that the machine was STILL down, indicating it was an ongoing problem they weren't fixing. Finally my food arrived and everything was off. SOMEHOW it was cold after the long wait. The bun they gave me was super hard and difficult to bite into and chew. The meat was undercooked even though I asked for medium well. I will say the lettuce and tomatoes were fine, but that's about the only thing that wasn't bad. Fast food places like Taco Bell have decent lettuce and tomatoes, so that wasn't a big compliment, lol. Fishing for a way to say something at all positive about this place, I'll say that the Peppered Pig FOOD TRUCK is what seemed to put them on the map of popularity. Maybe they're better, I don't know. That terrible experience was enough Peppered Pig for me. Huge thumbs down, which is rare...
Read moreThrilled to share that I finally got some time to try the new brick and mortar version of the Peppered Pig and it's every bit as good as I remember it from the food truck days!
The truck long held its title as my favorite burger in town, and I'm so relieved to say that hasn't changed. The new location has a welcoming, bright vibe to it and a spacious bar with some nice TVs. It's counter order but the friendly and helpful waitstaff do bring your food out to you. There's also a very nicely equipped self-service drink station that has anything else you might need for your meal (eg ketchup) along with accessible to-go boxes. This is a good thing, because you'll be hard-pressed to finish any entree in one sitting. While meals may seem a bit expensive ($20ish for a burger, fries, and a drink), you're supporting local and getting the best burger around that you'll likely be able to enjoy for at least two separate meals, or one full meal for you and a friend.
The burgers are enormous, succulent without being overly greasy, and the buns stand up to them valiantly - minimal mushiness or crumbling. The toppings on their speciality burgers are also given lots of care and consideration -- certainly not an afterthought. The mushrooms on my mushroom and Swiss were so savory, rich, and buttery.
The fries are solid (crinkle cut, with a light dusting of zaxby's-like fry seasoning), with a crispy exterior and soft interior. There are also lots of loaded fry creations that I'd love to try if I could ever let go of my burger obsession.
Lastly, they often have specials for the week of more unique or speciality creations. My mom and I came just so she could have their take on a French dip (amazing, btw). This week they have their version of poke bowl.
Seriously, everything they make here is amazing, and the owners are kind and creative folks. Give them a try; you...
