Certainly not as good as it used to be. Not sure why quality is suffering, but this used to be a bombshell location with hot, on-time, delicious food, and excellent service, but that's not the experience we had today.
Ordered food to-go at a specific time, and when I arrived (3 mins after my pickup time) it was on the bar as usual. I waited ~4 minutes with 3 people behind the bar looking all over the place except at the only guy standing directly in front of them. Finally someone from the kitchen came out and asked if I needed help.
Got my food, drove home. Food was so cold by the time we got home (only 12 mins after our chosen pickup time) had to microwave it to be palatable. I'm guessing my food had been behind the bar for half an hour as stone-cold as it was.
Food quality was pretty bad this time also. Bacon was burned badly, eggs were rubbery, no condiments in the bag.
Lastly, we all know the mask mandate is over, but the amount by of unmasked employees was startling. Only 3 employees I counted had on a mask. This just screams "we don't care about our customers' or employees' health and safety." Not a deal breaker, but it certainly reinforces the feeling that ABE is doing the bare minimum to ensure a good customer experience.
Sadly the quality here has dwindled quite a bit since our last visit a couple months ago. I hope ABE takes a look at how they can improve because they truly have a good selection and menu, but the execution today...
Read moreOkay, so this place is one of my new hometown obsessions. The day I had to leave to go back to NYC, my mom and I opted to try this spot, having heard it was quite good. Oh and good it sure was...
For those of the pro-egg camp, there are so many options for omlettes here which are quite creative and extensive. Options galore! For me, I was pleased to see there were a lot of options for pancakes/waffles/french toast. Mmmmm.
I went with the large pancake with strawberries. LARGE PANCAKE? Why haven't other places adopted this concept? It was perfect. Just enough food without overwhelming you with pancake upon pancake. Just perfect.
Which left room for the blackberry grits. This was a highlight for me. I have never had this combination and, after having had it, I think I'm spoiled. Can I ever have plain grits again? To be continued...
I loved the hometown diner feel, with an upscale flair to it. The service was prompt and courteous. I loved the layout of the restaurant and even the cute keepsakes they sold on the way out (little clay glazed vases with the restaurants logo, etc.). The hours are limited to 7am to 2pm but makes sense with the offerings they have. I can't wait to go...
Read moreNormally great, at the bar, with fair food and good service. This time, not so much. Service of waitress still great but the owner told me eggs cost 20 cents when asked to remove from my bill as I had requested over hard. I know that lots love their yolk on everything, but could not eat the potatoes or the eggs after cutting into my non-over hard eggs and yolk on everything. Having had to wait a long time for our food to begin with and not wanting my friend have to wait for it to be remade I asked if could just be removed and eat what I could around it. Most would remove the whole item, they “removed my Diet Coke”, instead. Also had other high ticket drinks on the ticket. Instead of just saying no when I said really that’s it, the manager added “eggs cost 20 cents so he didn’t have to do anything”. The owner. Of a BREAKFAST restaurant. Who charges more than 20 cents for his eggs said that when said eggs were not cooked to order. His entire demeanor was rude, and unbecoming. Yes you’ll make a ton off your 20 cent eggs in a great location in a growing city and don’t have to have class, but you...
