This was my first trip to a Schlotzsky's in a long time. This location is in Southwest Huntsville on Memorial Parkway. The sign is very visible and there is plenty of parking.
The store is neat and clean. The employees we dealt with on this visit were helpful.
There used to be a Reuben sandwich with pumpernickel bread. It is no longer available and the cashier said it is no longer available.
There are a wide variety of sandwiches available. The bread is sour dough and has a unique flavor. The bread was fresh with an airy texture. The flavor is not bad but unlike most sour dough bread I have tasted. No doubt, the bread is one item that separates the restaurant chain from others like Subway, etc.
The menu clearly lists what comes on each sandwich. I do not care for a lot of toppings on a sandwich. In this case, I held back on the pickle and onions. It came with a couple of cheese types. I thought I had ordered no cheese except for provolone but that was not communicated clearly and I ended up with cheddar and provolone. It also pays to read the menu clearly as the sandwiches have a number of additions unless ordered otherwise.
In any event, it is not a problem to specify the items to add or delete from a sandwich. In this case, it appeared to be a communication problem.
The roast beef was medium rare and appeared to be a good quality. It was not salty, which is good. If possible, I would get the sandwich with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and provolone cheese to provide more flavor from the beef—a personal preference that may not be widely shared—by eliminating the "special sauce" and the strong cheese.
My dining companion had the turkey and avocado. Again, read the menu closely. In this sandwich, the turkey is smoked which usually means the meat is more salty as a result. For those who prefer a less salty meat, it would be wise to order the regular turkey.
This location also has Cinnabons. They looked delicious and no doubt they are but very sweet with a sugary frosting. There is a separate display of these items near...
Read moreOrdered online, payed for my food. My wife was nearby so she went to pick it up. She had to pay, and got home with someone else’s order. Called and spoke with a person that evening and he called back. Said GM would either refund or remake the sandwiches. I live out of town so coming back that night was not going to work out. Came back Friday and the man at the register pretty much told me no. I pressed on showed proof of the order, phone calls etc. he went and pulled my receipt off of a bulletin board and called the manager. Then told me I had to bring in my bank statement. The manager said he cancelled out the order and returned the money to my card, but I still have the 50.00+ charge on my credit card, along with the 13.00 they charged my wife. In the end they did redo my sandwiches but not after several minutes of unnecessary arguing. I did not get my 13.00 back for that other food. Not sure what kind of sandwich it was, but it wasn’t something anyone in my house would eat. If you do an online order, better check it when...
Read moreUsed to come to this location often for lunch. About 6 months ago they hired some different people, and the place hasn't been the same since. I always order a Giant sandwich by itself, which comes out to a bit over $17. At the time it was decently justified because I could only ever eat half of it in one sitting, effectively making it two meals. Nowadays, I have to eat 3 of the 4 slices, and sometimes even the 4th to feel full. No, I haven't gained weight, the new crew just doesn't have the same portion sizes. I used to have smush the bread down just to be able to get it into my mouth for a bite, and sometimes now, I feel as though I'm eating a calzone. Genuinely disappointing fall off. I'd also like to mention that I've only ever been inside to eat once, and I felt like I was apparently being a massive nuisance, as I didn't feel welcomed at all by the staff. Hopefully someone with some power can see this review and get this location back...
