We tried Wayback for the first time for a carryout lunch a while ago. It wasn't awful, but I really wish we'd had a better experience.
We placed our order online and indicated we wanted curbside pickup. This was relatively easy to do, no complaints there. I thought the price was reasonable for what we ordered -- a double cheeseburger, a single burger, two fries, and a small shake to share. I called when I arrived at the restaurant on time and I was told they'd bring my food out to me.
After waiting for more than 10 minutes and watching two separate individuals pull up in their cars, walk in, get their orders, and leave, I just got out and headed for the door to pickup from inside. It so happened that one of the employees was walking out with my meal, so I intercepted her and she gave it to me. This employee was the highlight of the experience for sure -- very friendly, super apologetic about the wait time, just a sweet lady. Because of her, I don't hold the wait against them, really.
Unfortunately, the food also was really not up to par. We got the Oreo mud pie shake. The consistency wasn't bad, but the taste was quite weird. Super saccharine, with a heavy chocolate syrup / fake sugar flavor. I don't know what went wrong, but it wasn't good -- we didn't even get close to finishing it.
The fries were also super mediocre. Cold, under salted, not crispy (yet somehow not soggy either), definitely had a frozen feel/consistency. The ranch I ordered to dip them in had a sour, salad dressing-ish flavor. I was hoping for housemade/buttermilk, but this wasn't it.
The best thing was probably the burger. A medium to thin thickness patty, cooked appropriately I would say but perhaps a little dried out. The bacon I had on mine was super thin sliced, almost like microwave bacon, but it had a decent crisp and flavor so I didn't mind it too much. Bun a little on the large/hard side but it at least stood up well to the drive home. Not a super flavorful burger, but about on par with a fast food burger. That would be more okay if I was paying fast food prices for it. Instead, I'd say Wayback is comparable to / competing with a place like Five Guys. Wayback price is slightly better, but the food isn't even close -- Five Guys blows them out of the water. I'd rather pay a little extra, personally.
I never want to totally dissuade people from trying a place that I just happened to have a subpar experience with, so I'd still encourage you to try and make your...
Read moreWe ordered Postmates delivery from here - first time trying. The burgers were good even being delivered. However, I ordered the “spicy” cheese curds with my burger and expected just a small kick, but I’m not sure if I was given the regular cheese curds by mistake because they just tasted like regular cheese curds to me. Nothing spicy about them, but I have nothing to compare to as this was our first time. Also the sauce pictured with the cheese curds was not in the bag, so I’m sure that would’ve helped if I would’ve had it. We ordered the cookie butter shake and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch shake and were not impressed with either. I LOVE cookie butter things, and the ice cream in mine tasted like burnt plastic. Not sure if it was machine or the ice cream itself, but was very disappointed for the item I was most excited about. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch one was just okay. Very sweet, hint of the burnt plastic taste and couldn’t taste any Cinnamon Toast Crunch/cinnamon flavor to it either. It was better tasting than the cookie butter shake though, still not remotely worth the price. Also nothing like what was pictured. Not sure if it was an off night for this location or what. Over all it was just very meh, and spent way too much money ordering here on Postmates. If we ever try it again, we will opt for in store to cut down the cost because I’d never waste that much money on a delivery from here again to possibly be...
Read moreDifferent than Red Robin or steakhouse burgers. Update Bumped the star rating up by one star (3 to 4) due to management appearing to care about what customers think about Wayback Burgers. The restaurant appears clean and the staff are friendly. This restuarant is filling a niche market, similar to 5 Guys and Fries, which serve thin pattie burgers which can be a bit greasy, based on the method of cooking, which I believe is not on a grill per say but a griddle system. Here is what could be improved to make this place more competitive: Offer grilled food(flame-seared) versus fried on a flat surface.(unless they are doing this, then disregard and just improve smokey flavor.) Offer thick patties, versus just thin patties stacked on one another. This will allow competition with steakhouses nearby and places like Red Robin. Offer steak fries as well as the standard fries. Preseasoned fries in the cajun or spicy category would be nice as well. I do not remember if they offer unlimited fries, but if they do not, this would be a major plus to people. Offer better bread types for the buns, such as Chibatta bread or for the Keto folks, a lettuce wrap burger option. If they do not ready have this option, allow for call ahead orders to pick up meals on the go, possibly with a smartphone app, like...
