So incredibly disappointed in this bakery. I have used them for years. Got beautiful, yummmy cakes at reasonable prices...until April 2016. My daughter wanted Big Hero 6 cupcakes for her 3rd birthday so I headed to my trusted bakery. After discussing the 3 different designs (8 of each) I chose Baymax and the bad guy in frosting and Hiro in an edible print and cut out. $120 (yikes!!) later I got a really bad version of Baymax and edible prints for both Hiro and Bad guy mask. The cupcakes were dry and disappointing. And they forgot to give me the $20 fondant banner with happy birthday on it. When I called they were unapologetic and said I was welcome to come back and get it. Because I have nothing better to do on the day of my daughter's 3rd birthday party.
I tried again in June for my mom's cake. I wanted just a simple 1/4 sheet cake with edible print out on top of The Haunted Mansion picture of ballerina on tight rope over alligator and then Haunted Mansion wallpaper around the sides. They wanted to charge me for 5 printed edible sheets (one for the top and 4, one for each side, for the wallpaper even though it's an 8x10 print out and only a 2.5 inch strip needed for each side) at $20 a piece in addition to the cost of the cake. So over $130 for a 1/4 sheet cake with an edible print out. No thanks! Bought a plain frosted cake, went to a cake supplies store and they printed the two edible sheets out for me and I decorated the cake myself. My total cost, cake and prints, $45.
Against my better judgment I tried again today. One year later from my original disappointment. My daughter's 4th birthday cake, she wants Moana. I went in with my already purchased Moana figurines and asked for a small round, 2 tier cake. Just with blue frosting to kind of look like a waterfall in the front and green for grass around the the rest. Put the 2 figurines on top. I was told the smallest they could do was one that feeds 40 people and they will charge me wedding cake prices, $185. What?!? Seriously? I just had an Elena of Avalor Doll dress cake at Kroger for $34.99!! Way more detail in the dress than anything I asked for from TSB. I was willing to pay around $65 but $185!! That's crazy!! And I'm not convinced their cake is an better than Kroger's. I like their frosting better, but for a fraction of the cost, I'll compromise and serve Kroger cake to the little 4 year olds. They've lost my business for good. Many friends' parents have been at my parties and have purchased cakes from them. I've brought a lot of business their way. I'm voicing my disappointment here and with the other parents. Everyone can make their own decisions, but I've passed along my thoughts and experiences.
Previous wonderful cakes and gross cupcakes pictured below. I've captioned the pics with the prices I paid for those cakes at Texas Star in the past. I also included the cupcakes I was disappointed in. Why did they want $185 for a simple 2 tier round cake with minimal decorations and provided figurines? I was thinking like double the price of the...

Walking into Texas Star Bakery in Hurst is like stepping into a haven of sweetness where laughter and the aroma of freshly baked goods fill the air. My brother Mitch, who recently lost a Super Bowl bet, became the star of the show when he stepped in to pick up a cake while donning an exquisite wedding dress. True to form, the bakery staff were consummate hosts, ensuring Mitch's daring ensemble did not go unnoticed.
Stepping through the doors of Texas Star Bakery in the glaring light of day, Mitch felt a whirlwind of sensations. Dressed in a flowing wedding gown with the train trailing behind, the gaze of the midday crowd couldn't be avoided. The soft rustle of the dress with every step was a stark contrast to the usual hum of daily life in the bakery. Publicly humiliated for losing a bet, Mitch a bearded man in a wedding gown became a blushing bride as everyone enjoyed seeing and laughing at him, as the eyes of customers and staff alike followed his every move. As he approached the counter, perhaps he felt a mix of bashfulness and a strange sense of accomplishment, knowing that he was there to fulfill the terms of his Super Bowl bet.
The cake Mitch collected was a culinary masterpiece, both visually stunning and delectably satisfying. It was clear that the bakery puts their heart into every creation. The staff were not only experts in their craft but also in making every visit memorable. They joined in on the fun, encouraging Mitch to strike a pose with his cake, much to the delight of everyone present.
Losing a bet has never been so sweet, nor has it been met with such good-natured humor. The warmth and joviality of the staff turned what could have been a moment of embarrassment into one of joyous camaraderie. And the promise to share this amusing episode on social media? Simply the cherry on top of a delightful visit.
Texas Star Bakery delivered not just a cake but an experience that will be reminisced about with fondness and laughter. This place is a gem, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for exceptional baked goods served with a side of cheer.
We have another bet on March Madness, I hope Mitch loses again and they will...

My wife and I went there on 5/6 to order a cake to be made for our housewarming. We pick up the cake on 5/14. They require a weeks notice. It will be 1/4 sheet cake with designs to our specifications (house, flowers, message, etc) and the "premium" Italian cream that was extra. It cost us about $47 as designed.
When you go in and on the right is their case with all of the pre-made items, including cupcakes, that they make. The cupcakes are $2.50 each. They looked so good, I just couldn't walk away. We got a lemon bar. In addition, we got 4 cupcakes, banana pudding, strawberry, chocolate and almond---something. In short, they were amazing. (If you are diabetic or trying to loose weight, this place is to be avoided at all hazards.) The cupcakes and lemon bar, alas, did not survive the day. Two survived until nightfall. They were amazing. If they are any indicator, I shudder to think how good the cake will be.
UPDATE: 7/17/16
I went the following Saturday morning to pickup the cake for the housewarming. I show up with my receipt, etc and asked for my cake. At the time, I was the only one in the store. While I was waiting, several more customers show up for cakes. He kept looking and looking and looking. I started to get worried. Until I started looking around and paying attention (finally). There were cakes in boxes everywhere. It took the poor guy some time to find it in the mountains of cakes.
When he found he brought it to me opened it and verified with me that it was the right cake. When we ordered the cake we gave them general outlines of what we wanted, house, grass, trees, flowers, and "God bless our home".
What we got was another story. It was perfect. So much better than we expected. The taste of the cake was magnificent. In my mind, a steal at $47. You may consider $47 pricey for a 1/4 sheet. The quality of the cake and frosting leaves anything you get at a grocery/department store bakery light years behind. I could be wrong but I think you will be hard pressed to find a better bakery in this price range. I'll try to post a picture of the cake as well.
Doubt me? Go get a cupcake. I dare you, I...
