I’ve been here only once so far. The service was great. The server, and someone who I assume to be an owner/chef, both seemed pleasant and genuine. They were a tad anxious, but to me that demonstrates that they care about what they’re doing. The atmosphere was nice. I liked the vibe and the layout. Thought and consideration went into the design, and things felt clean and well maintained. The food presented well too. There’s a ton of potential for this place, especially considering how engaging and open to constructive criticism replies to reviews have been so far. I can’t wait for there to be more entree options, and I want to try a little bit of everything eventually.
All that being said, these are the things I think can be improved, which I only write because I think it is worth doing, and want to see this place succeed. I understand this place is new, and can appreciate growing pains as kinks are worked out:
The restaurant was extremely hot. I was super uncomfortable and sweaty, and going outside after our meal felt refreshing, even though it was the high 70’s outdoors. This is probably one of my biggest complaints about my experience.
Chicken was a bit dry and seemed overcooked. So did the boiled egg. The rangoons were hot and good (especially the sweet and sour sauce!), but the wonton wrapper seemed stale or overcooked. The potato and corn (which was hard to eat on the cob) was cold, and overall the dishes seemed rushed together and not cooked to order. I’m totally fine with shortcuts, but proper execution of them requires proper preparation and consideration. They ideally won’t affect the final product.
The bowls/plates were cold, and made the meal quickly turn cold as well. This is a detail that makes a big difference. A quick dip in hot water before plating or storing dishes in a hot dishwasher goes a long way.
The self-checkout kiosk and self-service seating was appreciated, but some of the food descriptions were incomplete or non-existent, and options were sometimes confusing. For example, a “side of ramen” was really just noodles (no broth), a side of veggies was $0 (?) and didn’t say what KIND of veggies were included, and it wasn’t clear what came with each dish (especially the viet-cajun entree). I really liked when there were pictures, and wished that was consistent for everything. It also wasn’t clear when it asked to enter your table tent #, it simply asked for a number without a detailed prompt. The options for spiciness and sweetness level, and the overall level of customization was nice though.
Boba straw was too short, and can fall into the drink completely at the right angle. It’s a silly detail, but it is important. It feels a bit careless and inconsiderate.
The crispy egg rolls in the noodle bowl become soggy quickly, especially when mixed in. Serving it on the side might be better, but I’m not sure. Just an...
Read moreMy kid and I were really looking forward to trying out the vegetarian options at this restaurant. The restaurant is located on the main level of Wesley Towers. It was empty when we arrived. We both liked the layout, low lighting, window and other seating options. Staff was friendly and attentive. It was quiet until they turned on 80s music that seemed to be because of our arrival. We could have done without that. It was too loud and did not contribute to the ambience. The food looked so good. We were excited, but quickly disappointed. We both ordered different boba teas, mango and chai, that were okay- good. They let you choose sweetness level and you can opt for non-dairy, but they don't disclose what that non-dairy option is. It was my first experience with boba. The spring rolls were completely flavorless and accompanied with a very unappetizing-looking thick brown sauce that neither of us liked. We doused them in chili, soy and hoison sauces that were available at table. My kid ordered a garlic butter dish with noodles and I ordered a veggie pho with a broth that was very strange, unappetizing and ruined the entire dish. Even the smell was very unappetizing. The tofu in both of our dishes was also very bland and disappointing, even though it was piled high. We are both normally fans of tofu. We paid about $70, in total. We each only took a few bites of our respective dishes because they both tasted so bad. We tried each others' dishes and were just as disappointed. We were both very disappointed and will likely not return. I see that others have left quite good reviews for the meat/seafood-based dishes. I would not recommend this restaurant for any of it's vegetarian or vegan options, however. What we tried out was very disappointing, tasted very bland or downright bad, and after spending...
Read moreI got the shrimp pho with extra vegetables. My friends got brisket and steak phos, one thing we appreciated was the broth in each bowl had a distinct taste from the others. The steak wasn't quite rare, but still good. It wasn't described what sort of extra vegetables I was signing up for... that might be a good thing to add to your kiosk menu. Each portion was a good amount, we were well filled for our money. The flavors were delicious and the service was good. We also each bought milk tea with boba in different flavors, I really enjoyed my taro milk tea, especially since I was able to choose the sweetness level. They make their drinks very sweet if you don't choose a "less sweet" option! I loved the additional plate of lime, sprouted beans, and Asian basil that came with our order, and they tasted great, but they weren't as fresh as they could have been. Overall, I give five stars because I loved this spot, it has good service, good food, good potential, and they are still on a learning curve. I hope you guys...
