This places prefers a specific age range (older adults), and I think the prices are a bit much to deter people from bringing children. The food is fantastic! It's a perfect lunch size and tastes fresh! The staff are very friendly but busy, so it can be a little while to get a refill or a to-go box. When I visited, it was slow and quiet but quickly escalated when it struck noon. It wasn't obnoxiously loud, but it had the background noise of a bunch of people conversing casually like you might find in a busy cafe. I found it charming, but my companion's experience was dampened by it, so I guess it depends on the person.

As far as atmosphere, the decor tries, but it misses the mark. The seafoam green carpet is a little mossy and the eggshell walls are a tad too yellowed. The roof-yard outside the window had potential to look like a garden paradise, but the plants are dead and dry and the fence is a dead, dull brown. Today was my daughter's birthday, she chose Downtown Sampler due to the great food and service we experienced at two previous visits. From the minute we entered it was downhill all the way. In their defense it was during lunch BUT our server was horrible and the food was barely okay. It seemed like the other servers were busy too but they handled it. Ours walked twice as far and got half as much taken care of. By the time we got our condiments our burger was cold. We had to flag down a table busser to get them since the server never came back with them. We had to wait for drink refills and gave up getting our ticket so we could pay. Asked for a go box and had to wait while our server went back to get it as she forgot. 25$ literally wasted plus totally ruined my daughter's birthday lunch. We were both so disappointed. Croissant chicken salad sandwich was a very poor choice for lunch meal, chicken had a funky taste and croissant was bad, old style burger was good but the bread was yeasty, giving a off taste to the meal!
