I always wondered what it would take to make me pay and leave after one or two bites of my food. Now I know. I ordered the Kimchi Noodle Soup expecting something resembling other Kimchi soups I’ve had around town in the vein of Hana Yoree, Charm, or Odaku, or at the very least something tasting a little like its namesake. This was not that. The dish looked amazing but after the first bite—and I did unfortunately leave after about 2 more small bites— I knew I wasn’t going to even eat it. The taste was just too far off from what I was expecting (i.e. fermented kimchi). Not being cynical but the closest I can describe the taste is to palmolive dish soap residue. I literally stirred the broth to see if it would bubble or froth thinking this was the case. The waitress informed me that there was Zanthoxylum aka “Sichuan peppercorn” in the dish, which I asked if is “that” spice that numbs your mouth, to which she said yes. Most places I’ve gone to and have encountered this spice, it’s used as a garnish and you’re told about 3 times not to eat it unless you want your mouth to be numb. The staff was very nice and offered a replacement dish twice, once at the table and once while paying. Given I didn’t like the first dish enough to literally not eat it, instead of offering another dish I’d have appreciated an offer to not have to pay the $10 for the first one I didn’t eat.

Honestly the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. I have never left a negative review in my life, but I can’t get over how terrible our food was. I got hot and sour soup, and it tasted like straight vegetable oil with a little red pepper. No flavor at all. The egg roll was also super bland and watery on the inside, the cabbage didn’t seem cooked enough either. I got Generals tso chicken and it was straight breading. There was no chicken. It was laughable. Finished the egg roll bc I was hungry but couldn’t eat anything else. I don’t know how this place has 4 stars. The staff was polite, but the restaurant was a mess and definitely not somewhere you would want to dine in. Even dining in they serve you in styrofoam to-go containers and give you plastic ware to eat with.

Tried this place for the first time per my friend’s recommendation, and WOW. Amazing food, good portions and delivery arrived within the 1 hour quoted time from the moment I placed the order online. I recommend: - the pan fried dumplings - so much juicy tender meat - dry fried green beans - 💯 - sautéed Chinese cabbage- add beef - SO GOOD - egg drop soup (although we didn’t get the wonton crunchies on the side like I’m usually used to) - Pad Thai w/ beef - honey walnut shrimp - crab rangoons* - tasted like they needed more cream cheese and maybe a little overcooked, no crab taste at all My friends order/liked: - shrimp fried rice - chicken egg rolls

I just picked up my food from Wens cafe. What a disappointment. I've eaten here before, the food is decent, but the service is substandard. Ordering over the phone was very difficult. When I asked if they had curbside available, I felt as if I asked the most preposterous question ever. She didn't even offer to let me pay over the phone., I had to ask, AFTER I asked her about the curbside option. THEN I got to the restaurant where I was corralled into a bunch of tables sectioning off a pick up area with a shower curtain hanging from the ceiling. There were no signs, directions, or anything explaining what the system was. I stood in this area confused for about 4 Minutes with no greeting of any kind. THEN the lady who I could barely see yelled across the restaurant and through the curtain for my name. I yelled back, because I could barely hear her o we the blaring music coming from the speaker just above my head in the corral. She then crossed the room with my food, dropped it off, and turned around and walked away. No hello, no thank you, no nothing. I understand we are in trying times, but from start to finish I felt unappreciated and not valued as a customer. My funds and company are very limited these days, and Chinese food is most certainly a luxury. To add insult to injury, she forgot something in my order,, and after I yelled across the room and through the curtain yet again, she irritatingly crossed back over to the corral slid my sauce across the table and stomped away. Once again, no thank you, no sorry, no nothing. As the cherry on top, my noodles were overdone. I try to limit my exposure when I go out, and I can assure you I will pass by wens cafe to get to T gins, or anywhere else for that matter. In this time where I hear "we're all in this together" 90 times a day, wens cafe failed that...

One star is the highest I can give. Because I can’t give it without any star. I was very happy about the new Chinese Restaurant opened in Hutto. But I am very disappointed tonight when I go to the Wens. I have been to so many Chinese Restaurant in California. So I know how to evaluate a chinese restaurant. I want aske a question “what is a REAL KITCHEN,any body? Is that means the chef of the restaurant should make the food by using their hands, right? I order dumplings and egg roll every time when I going to a new Chinese restaurant, because I love them and you can tell if this is a REAL KITCHEN through them. Tonight I ordered the dumplings and couple egg roll. Very nasty. Very disappointed.I can tell the skin of dumplings is NOT HOMEMADE, it’s from SUPERMARKET. You can see it on any grocery store even in H.E.B. It is totally not HOMEMADE. Second thing, you can’t tell what’s inside the eggroll. I can’t see any cabbage or carrot even the chicken meat clearly inside the eggroll. It looks like a lump of unknown stuff. I am not picky. Think about it if you spend money, but the food is from some unknown food store, what would you feel,if any Chinese restaurant like this,so why don’t we just go to the Panda Express or Mama Fus. They are even cheaper. The waitress is nice. But it seems she can’t speak more english. Service is OK just SLOW. you need wait anything you asked. So I don’t recommend this place even it’s close my home. I am searching a REAL KITCHEN CHINESE RESTAURANT, a place I am at ease with. Anyone has...

Update: So it’s been about 3yrs since I posted my last review and felt that Wen’d Cafe should be given a re-evaluation. I’ve bumped them up from a 4 to a 5.

From my original post the owners have finally settled on a menu and I have to say it’s all delicious. We constantly go back to Wen’s for delivery and every single time the food is always hot. The food is always delicious and the price is still very reasonable. The delivery driver is always very nice and very prompt. The owners are always very responsive and friendly. I am looking forward to continuing to frequent this establishment.

Original post: The reason for the 4 stars is solely for the fact that the menu still shows items on there that are no longer offered. Owners if you’re not offering certain things on the menu take the time to white them out or line though them in the menu’s. Your customers will understand the line though’s more easily rather than look through your menu, order something, and be told that it’s no longer offered and then have to look through the menu again. Now that’s not to say leave the menu’s like that but once the menu has been settled on update it then. The prices are the same for the dishes just about anywhere you go, reasonably priced. The restaurant was clean, although to be expected since it’s still newly opened. The atmosphere is very friendly as well as the staff. The food on the hand was delicious and I am looking forward to returning at...
