Pepe's Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

If i could give zero stars i would. The staff here aren’t friendly except for the bartender Silvia. I ordered three lunch specials all of them different. When i got my order the cashier made it seem as though it was correct . Got home wasn’t right. Called to let them know ,the supervisor took my name and said she would replace the whole meal and apologized. I ended up going back the next day. When i got there they couldn’t find my name, then when they did find it, Jose took the paper To the back. Came back three minutes later and told me that it was all there. I looked at one and it was correct. Got home missing a meal. I called and Jose acted as if he didn’t know what was going on an never talked to me. He hung up in my face. I went back up there and he stated i would have to wait for the night shift manager to complain, an asked for my receipt. I didn’t touch the food. I went to my car found the receipt and when i came back Jose was hiding behind the bar. I walked around to show him my receipt and he ran to the kitchen. I then asked for corporate number everyone was acting lost as if there was no corporate. Finally got the number off the back of the menu and called . I am still waiting on a call back....

Meat sauce tastes extremely watered down lately, especially on days when "special' is offered 2x's a week. Go to an actual Mexican neighborhood (like near Midway) for authentic Mexican Pepes flavors like back in the day because they won't serve this watered down food to their people.And you will get chips and salsa when you dine in (but not in a predominantly Black neighborhood). I'm never going back to this location after tonight because my tastebuds are looking for the real deal flavorful seasonings. It's worth the hike across town to get good food. Even the peppers here are wrong, they put oil in them (omg) and they're all soggy/mushy. Dear owner, if you read this, you only need white vinegar and Mexican oregano, boil for 15-20 mins, we like full flavor too on regular price days especially. I'm so disappointed because it used to actually taste good but something has changed in recent months. Beans & Rice are still good though. Maybe it's just hit or miss at this location but I promise you, they are consistant over by Midway...

We went this particular location on 7/9/22 around the 5:30PM - 6:30PM hour, it was on A Saturday. Luckily for my father and I it was not crowded, one man left after I ordered my food an another lady proceeded after my order was placed. The cashier was pleasant and repeated back everything I said because I had decent amount of food ordered. I asked for extra hot sauce packets and HE gave US just that when my order was ready. The food really took less than 15 minutes (As Cashier Stated)to prepare and ALL meals ordered were properly placed in the bag nicely. I guess my father and I went on a good night because I have no complaints to report on the food. The place itself was a little messy, and this was one of the better Pepe’s back in the early 2000’s when I lived around 79TH street area. The foods has gone up considerably from the last time I recall coming here a few years ago. So four ⭐️ for overall service, tastes, preparation and minus one because of the mess outside parking lot/in the restaurant, plus the HIGH PRICE...
