Back Yard Burgers — Restaurant in Independence

I've been to Backyard Burgers several times, but they've never really WOWed me. Their burgers are definitely a step above McDonald's and other fast food places, but I can't really justify spending almost $6 on a burger that's only marginally better. Full disclosure, I haven't been to a McDonald's in a long time so maybe their burgers have improved and are on par with this. Burger King makes a fine burger and it's not nearly as expensive. If I wanted a GREAT burger I'd try Red Robin or somewhere like that - sure the burger may be near $10 but the quality is significantly improved from this. The restaurant is located right on 23rd street with ample parking which I always love, but lots of places have decent parking situations. Unfortunately, I have been cutting back on eating out because of diet reasons and these guys don't have a full diet friendly menu, but as a burger place I don't expect them to. Clean and friendly with good burgers a little pink in the middle, the hawaiian chicken sandwich was dry with one end burnt around the edges. Loaded baked potatoes are tasty and on the 2 for $6 menu so a fair value.

Fries come seasoned or waffle-ok but nothing special. The onion rings are also ok basic rings but had a weird fishy after taste. They are whole onion rings not the diced formed onion rings.

There were 2 employees wiping tables and picking up the dining area regularly and what I could see of the kitchen was tidy-it is a clean establishment.

My main issue was the counter order taker. Guy ahead of me was asked question after question to customize his burger---I was asked zero questions and got a standard classic burger COATED in extra mustard! Not a huge issue I just switched my bun top with my kid who loves mustard.

We had 3 burger combos, 1 chicken combo and 2 loaded potatoes it was $38 so not bad, not great but...

Lack of attention made me decide to never come back and to redact my previous 5 star rating to a 1 star. Will be requesting my refund tomorrow as the staff can’t seem to just get us our LARGE SOUP they “just put away”. I didn’t care if it was cold. I didn’t want it another day as I wanted it with my meal! Dinner was ruined and because of the lack of care I am constantly seeing within this place, I will not be supporting this place anymore. It’s ridiculous we spend money often just for this to be that last straw but I’m so sick of the lack of attention from this staff as this isn’t the first time they have forgotten items and I’ve had to drive ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE STORE! This time left empty handed with a CHARGE to our card. Only option we had was to “get it tomorrow?” Who wants just a large soup meant to be shared for tomorrow when normal people plan out...
