I wish I could give a better rating but the experience we had tonight was just awful. I went in there with some friends after the gym. There was about 8 of us. We have gone in there many times after our class and had a great time but after tonight we will NOT go back. First, it took forever to get a drink order. The Bartenders were more occupied with the customers at the bar. Not even paying attention to the table they had. I got there a little after everyone as well as two more people. When we finally got to order, it took FOREVER for us to get our food. I said to the Bartender, said Kiki on the check. Where is our food? The look in her eyes and her response tells me she forgot to ring it in. She then runs to kitchen I assume to ask for the food on the fly. Now I’ve been a bartender for 20yrs. So I can read people pretty well. By the time we got the food I was ready to go. The wasn’t even that great. The Cauliflower bites were way over cooked and weren’t cooked like we have had many times in the past. Again we had to constantly look for someone to come over and get us silverware Etc. Next comes the checks and buy were some of us shocked and what they charged for a Margarita with a FLOATER of Couintreau... 21 dollars for a Casa amigos margarita that wasn’t even that good. The problem was that they bartender did not inform anyone they were gonna cost that much. Especially one person who came late and just asked for a margarita like our friend had. She did not know it’s was 21 bucks! Now as an experienced bartender myself I would NEVER just assume someone wants that pricey drink, I would let them know as to avoid what we dealt with. Each bartender blamed one another for it. I’ve worked in clubs and fancy bars and never charged 21 dollars for a drink! That’s just INSANE! Then to give an attitude to the customer about it is just wrong! You are the bartender it is your job to let customers know what something might cost. It’s your tip on the line. Your drink shouldn’t cost more that your food ESPECIALLY in a place like The Tavern. It’s not a fancy 5 star restaurant. Just ridiculous. We all said we will not be going back after tonight. The sad part is most of have worked in the industry and are excellent tippers but we got treated like we were a chore. Get better bartenders with...
Read moreYou know, I was unsure about writing this but feel it's necessary. We've been here a handful of times and have always enjoyed the space, food, drinks-- BUT about 2 weeks ago we had family in town and had taken them here to show it off and were SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED.
From the moment we walked in, we knew it was late and had considerately asked the bartender if they were still serving food before being seated. She paused, I'm guessing to debate it in her head before going in the back to ask the chef.
She came back a moment later saying yes, we could still order our dinner and we were seated. And that was like the biggest insult ever to her apparently because the entire time she was snarky and impatient with us, even though the place was nearly empty, all but accusing my husband's brother of not understanding his drink order when it did not taste like anything and deadpan telling my husband that it was the ice melting in his drink for why 2 seconds after it was served tasted like he was just drinking water with a splash of coke. Like, yes, of course ice melts, but the drink should have been served with a half a glass of melted ice from the jump.
I was trying to keep it on a light note but it was apparent to the whole table how miserable this woman was and we were actually a little concerned that once our food came out it, already quite cooled might I add, that she might have sabotaged it. I would never assume that of someone being immature and retaliating but her blatant unprofessionalism planted the seed.
Anyways, we will think twice before going to this bar again bc it ruins the whole experience when youre being waited on by someone who hates their job and takes it out on the customers. Sorry I didn't catch her name but if you've ever seen her, you'd know bc she wears her hatred for her job on her face quite obviously.
Every other bartender we've had there has been friendly, so it definitely shifted our impression of this place...
Read moreFirst things first, this is the dirtiest restaurant I've been in for a long time. The smell of dirty drains overwhelms the dining area, the bathroom is as bad as the diviest of dives, and even the walls are grimy. The bathroom doors are as much grey and brown as they are blue.
Nothing I've seen in this place in the last 4 years shows any attempts at descent cleaning or basic maintenance.
I don't know if the tap lines aren't cleaned, the kegs are stored outside, or what is going on, but every beer is off. The normally grapefruit effervescence of Pulp Fiction is a barely fruity mess of staleness. I tried a new beer tonight, but I can't tell if the problem is the beer is old and not stored properly or if the tap lines is filthy, but no beer has tasted right in this place for at least two years.
The service is usually reasonable, but sometimes the servers show obvious apathy to doing their jobs and seldom know anything about the product. I'm not even sure I've seen the same server in here more than once or twice, which is an obvious red flag.
It's weird to say about a place that is barely 10 years old, but the place has potential. Some serious deep cleaning, some basic maintenance... Well, a LOT of both of those. I've never seen a business with a faucet so corroded that it has holes in it except in really bad gas station bathrooms, but this one has had a hole in it since I first came here 4 years ago.
The patio: in the summer, the staff isn't allowed to turn the fire pit off on hot nights. The coconut palms are dropping coconuts onto the seating and there are plenty more ready to fall. (I mentioned this to the bartender, who seemed - again - apathetic. There is trash from old decoration behind the seating.
This place has great potential, but...
