My wife and I ate at Scott’s in early December and it was a terrific dining experience so we asked then about what the place does for New Year’s Eve. We were very happy to hear that they’re open and stay with a regular menu. So, we made a reservation for four people at 7:30 a couple of weeks before New Year’s Eve. We arrived a few minutes early and stood in the doorway which is right on top of the table in the entrance. We were greeted by a slim white male in his early fifties and directed to that table while two tables on the left edge were open and the table in the front right corner just became free. He directed us to the table in the front door where we were crowding on top of. I asked about any of the other tables including the table just freed up. He was not very happy and eventually conceded but told us we’d have to be out by 9pm. To which I replied that’s entirely up to the service. Service is very, very slow and that’s okay, but we know it is so, we can’t control when we are done. During the time we were there he tried to seat others there to no avail until he had a party of two and they sat there. Still two other tables free on the edge and he seated a couple, one with a crutch there. They small talked for a few minutes and the host eventually felt bad and himself offered up a table on the edge. I get it, you have to fill the table but don’t give me grief because we asked for other seating with many available. It’s New Year’s Eve and you set a bad tone for what should be a wonderful night. As a result, we skipped appetizers that we’d normally order felling rushed. Of the four entrees one filet came very rare and was ordered medium. We convinced that diner to ask for it to be cooked more. It took 20 minutes and came back cooked to death. We immediately asked for it to be done again. Another 20 minutes and a rare steak, even more rare than the first came out. Mind you due to slow service and redo cooking we’re still at that table at 9:30 so there goes the 9:00 limit the host set on us. She ate around the outside of the filet and took the rare portion home and will cook it a bit more later. Scott is a great chef so how do you mess up a steak? He took 1/2 off that entree which was $46. It all started with a snooty host. Then you have to redo one entree well under cooked and couldn’t cook it just a bit more and then a brand new mistake steak. Otherwise, the rest of us had perfectly cooked meals. And we know the service is slow so that’s not an...
Read moreOur reseservation for 2 was for last Saturday night. It was a birthday/Mother's Day celebration. We both ordered the same thing...Steak Tuscany. My friend's entree was very good...mine was terrible. The steak was so OVER tenderized that after really trying I gave up and did not eat the other half. It was literally mushy. The waitress did not return until my friend had already finished and was ready for dessert. The waitress asked me if i wanted it boxed and i said "no" . I chose not to complain because I did not want it to become a 'negative celebration' but intended to call the restaurant the next day. On the way out a man that I took.as the manager/owner asked me how was the dinner. I told him... he said he would talk to the chef. For $180.00 ....with tip... I would have expected much better. I have been there before....my kids were there in February....never had such a bad experience. I am still very...
Read moreWe just ate at this little gem of a place called Scott's on Fifth. It was amaaaazing. From the little olives on the table when we first sat down (I have NEVER liked olives before) to the crab bisque, both of our main courses (he had stuffed shrimp, I had the lobster) and the chocolate dessert... every bite was delicious, I can't emphasize this enough. The service was on point and friendly and the atmosphere was perfect with their intimate 12 tabled seating, everyone had a sunset view. I'm big on service (used to be a server) so I'm majorly critical. Not that it was a diamond in the rough (it's on 5th avenue) but we felt like it was the best discovery so far that we've made since we've been here in the area! (2 1/2 yrs with date nights once a month) Even better than Dijon's which comes in second now that we know about Scott's on Fifth. We will be back time...
