I wish I could give it 4.5 stars but sadly Google hasn't figured it out in all this time...(Google? Are you ever listening?)...
Anyway, what a fabulous surprise, really. From the street or even the back where the main parking can be found, the place really isn't much to look at. But when you enter, ah, there is the difference. Decorated in a light beachy theme, nothing tacky, mind-you, you get the sense it gonna be a special experience. The location has a bar that separates what I will call a front dining area (which faces 5th Ave) and one that is in the back, way smaller and more intimate. This is where they sat us and I am so glad they did. It was cozy and relaxed, and though there were other parties in the room it had a friendly relaxed vibe.
The menu is short and too the point. Not many choices but the choices are all special. My wife had their shrimp and scallops while I chose their signature dish - the onion crusted grouper. I had forgotten how much I liked grouper and this slab of fish was both large and beautifully done up. The shrimp were large, the scallops were even bigger, and the entire meal was special from beginning to end. They serve local craft beer which instantly became a plus in my book.
For dessert we had their orange creamsicle brownie - which reminded me more of turron rather than a brownie itself - but no matter. The darn thing was delicious. I could have easily eaten two or twenty more.
Service was what you would expect from a higher end place - which this is clearly. It may not look at it from the outside, but it was totally high-end on the inside. The server was three or four-days new, she needed a bit help but was still spot on with the drink refills and checking in on us. The manager (I think she was the manager) came to the back and checked on everyone several times. She was very personable and we had a good time jawing about their beers.
Like I said, a truly fabulous surprise - don't let the exterior fool you - this place has got it going...
Read moreOn the advice of a family member we made reservations. Good thing - the place was mobbed. First good sign. We got there - the entrance is from the back parking lot. The walk to the door was pretty unimpressive, with an employee sitting outside the kitchen smoking. The walkway up to the door was o.k., but nothing special. When we got inside, someone greeted us right away and said the hostess would be right back to seat us. It wasn't right back, but it wasn't too long. She took us to our table - as I said, it was mobbed. The place is small, but we weren't cramped.
When we opened the menu, we were pleasantly surprised to see fish that we fish (unsuccessfully) for often - including cobia! The waiter came over and was super nice. Told us the specials - unfortunately the golden tile was out of season. I'll have to come back when it is! We ordered the spicy mussels - it was not a disappointing dish, but not the best mussels ever. At 8.95, it was a good deal though. My husband ordered the special - wahoo, and I ordered the cobia, grilled. He got the fruit salsa and I got the creamy dill sauce.
When the dinners arrived, we were shocked at ths size of the portion. My cobia - 19.95 - was the biggest serving of fish I've ever seen. Hubby's wahoo, at 21.95 was the same. Our first bites left us looking at each other with an understanding - we'd found the best fish restaurant EVER. The fish was obviously very fresh, and was cooked absolutely perfectly. It came with a side of steamed veggies that were also excellent. Neither of us cared much for the sweet potato side, but we didn't come here for their potatoes.
The freshness, size, and perfect cooking/grill marks on the fish are what warrant the food being rated as excellent. Next time we may just get a salad as an appetizer but I can't imagine going anywhere else for fish in the Melbourne area. I'm a...
Read moreOh wow! I can't believe this place is in operation! I ordered the peppered crusted New York strip and asked for it to be cooked medium. My sister ordered snapper and they brought out shrimp, which is a simple mistake. When I got my steak, it had no seasoning and was very well done. I wasn't going to complain but since they messed up my sister's order anyway, I thought I'd go ahead and tell them that my steak wasn't prepared correctly. The waiter was really nice but soon after, a woman comes to our table and asked what the problem was (in those words). We explained and we weren't at all mad or being impatient about it, it really wasn't a big deal, but she got extremely rude right off and I guess she thought she would make the situation better by telling me that when you order steak it may not always come out perfect. I have cooked all my life and I understand how it may not be perfect but I got mad that she would approach us this way in the middle of the restaurant and got an attitude back with her. I told her that with the prices she was charging she should at least 1) be able to get the right order, and 2) my steak should have had at least a tinge of pink to it and have had the seasoning on it that it claimed to have on the menu! She claimed she was the owner and did not apologize for the mess up or her behavior. So let me just say we left and will not be going back! Then when I came here to leave a review and read other reviews on how she has treated a lot of other people the same way, I came to the realization that this woman is a mental case! Be warned people! There are knives...
