Kooky Coconut — Restaurant in Indian Rocks Beach

I'm revising an older, less positive review. I've been to this business a dozen plus times now over various vacations. It's always so tasty, and the staff are all nice people who help every customer earnestly. I used to consider it overpriced, but honestly I used to be much more of a penny pincher. It's actually a bit cheap considering how delicious the food is, and how large the servings are. I'd happily pay more for the experience and they're nice enough not to ask us to! That's why kooky has become a staple of my every visit to Indian Rocks Beach.

Don't ask me what to order, because I've tried literally everything, and it's all fantastic. Today I had a quesadilla, with black beans, onion, and cilantro. Yesterday it was the Cuban. It doesn't matter what you order, it's all delicious. And they even offer dessert! Don't get me started on the ice cream, just order some, if you get the chance. It is SO GOOD. Just eat it fast before it melts!

Kooky is my favorite local business in the Largo area. They deserve my business and yours too, their location may be small but that just makes parking easier! If you're lucky you'll snag some of the public parking, as kooky is located conveniently beside a beach access in one of the less utilized areas of this beach! I have been to kooky coconut before and really liked the food, ice cream and friendly staff. However this time it was unfortunately a disappointment. There were three of us and we were greeted with a Hi as we entered but no one asked how they could help us. I had to tell the staff person we would like to have lunch and could he please clean the table ( the table was dirty) . We ordered our food and had to wait 40 minutes while other customers who came after us received their orders. The staff didn’t seem to notice we had been waiting a long time even though we had a pager. I asked about our order and the staff person said sorry but did not offer a reason why the order was not complete. He said it would be right out but in the meantime many other customers were getting their orders and these customers came in after us. As we sat there ants were crawling on the walls and floor, no straws for the fountain drinks, even though customers brought that to the attention of the staff, trash overflowing and the bagged chip baskets were almost empty. I went to the counter and asked for my money back because a few minutes turned into another 15 minutes and we still did not have food. Only then our food magically appeared. The island vibe, decor, very beachy & fun! You can sit inside in the A.C. to cool off or sit outside the covered back porch at a table with a grass umbrella. The location is literally steps from the sand & beach but parking is limited so you can't leave your car there while you go to the beach BUT public beach access is right behind here and there are some parking spots at that beach access. We've been here several times over the last 3 months & there has been available parking all but twice. The food at kooky coconut is great, fresh, homemade taste. I love the tuna stuffed avocado! My son loves their hot dogs & awesome ice cream selections. My husband loves their Cuban sandwiches & variety of beer. We have always had good service here. I read a comment below that mentioned a bald guy yelling at people in parking lot and I must say, I have never seen any1 matching that description working there, nor have we ever experienced such a thing there...
