This is my favourite restaurant. TLDR: It's amazing, when they want to be.
A little back story for some context. I have visited Leo's (as we call it) often during the last 6 years. Since I started in the service industry and started closing bars and restaurants this has been something that I look forward to at the end of my shifts. When I 1st discovered this little spot I was blown away by the prices, the portions, and the quality of food. This is the best Mexican near my house. Period.
I enjoy this place so much that my bank called me stating they were worried about fraudulent charges to my card as during a 24hr period of time I had x3 identical charges from the same place. What can I say, I had a rough night closing and enjoyed it after work the night of, before work the next day and after work also that night.
I rave to customers about it. I rave to coworkers about it. I love Leo's. But I'm done. Over the course of the last year (possibly due to Covid, I'd love to believe that) it's the same thing though more than 50% of the time and more recently 100% of the time. No longer is it:
"How can I help you?"
It's now:
"We're cleaning the grills."
12am? Same thing. 1am? Same thing. 2am? Same thing. 3am? Same thing. 10PM on a weekday? Same thing.
Unfortunately on this side of town all of the fast food/grocery stores/restaurants close early which compounds the frustration of not ordering food from work, driving out of the way to grab Leo's, and being disappointed more often than not now. I haven't had food from Leo's in almost two months yet I've visited weekly after work at varying times during the night.
Still the best Mexican though on this side of town. Just can't get it anymore...
Read moreThis place is mostly known for their plates of food Carne asada & chicken asada also serves breakfast all day and its open 24 hours with a drive thru thats pretty much it I heard its best to go here in the night because that's when they have their best cooks especially during the weekends anywhere between 8:00 pm to 12:00 pm their breakfast burritos are okay they have decent horchata and churro desserts is alright like the strawberry & cajeta flavors is good what I wouldn't recommend from here is their tacos yes unfortunately this restaurant being Mexican supposedly has bad tacos in my opinion compared to other Mexican restaurants & taqueria's the corn tortillas I don't know what they are supposed to be made out of hand made or processed stuffing the meat tastes bland and they add diced chopped tomatoes on top so unauthentic for Mexican tacos and they also serve them cold and luke warm sometimes as I ordered tacos from here several times but never again blaah 😝😣👎 its best to get authentic Mexican tacos from "El Gigante Tamale Shop & Taqueria" the restaurant that's behind this place on the far right by the Big Lots store in the Bent Tree Plaza but yeah that's all what I have to say about this place they accept cards & cash...
Read moreI occasionally work in Zionsville (I am from Wisconsin) and was very disappointed in my options for late night eats. One night, out of desperation, I tried this place. Changed my life, or at least my time working in Indiana. It's now one of the things I look forward to.
Frankly, this is better Mexican food than most of the places I've tried in the midwest. Authentic? Not 100%, but Americans dont really like authentic Mexican food anyways (it has a lot less cheese and we giant fatasses love our cheese)
I dont need the drive through but even if it was just ok the fact that it's 24 hours makes it amazing. They have gotten my order wrong quite a few times so now I always check.
My go to is the Chiles Rellenos and the Carne Asada Burrito. I've tried a few other things but these are my favorites.
Biggest complaint? The guac is terrible. Does not seem fresh and does not seem flavorful. I didnt think you could have bad guac but they manage. Everything...
