Lulu's Coffee & Bakehouse — Restaurant in Indianapolis

I'm not sure if this Cafe is just racist towards black people or they just rude. My first experience there wasn't so great. When I walked in up to the counter a white lady appeared and did not speak she just stared at me. So I tried to give this Cafe another try hoping that things would change because they do have good coffee but the food is mediocre. So I entered the cafe again today and experience the same treatment but they greeted the white customers. A white young idiot female with black hair took my order but did not speak something has to be done about their poor customer service and behavior! This Cafe has a lost my service and you guys will be reported it is not right to treat people like this!!!

It is sad that you are defending your staff bad behavior and poor customer service skills instead of correcting them! And as I can recall I actually been in your Cafe more than twice and each time I was treated this way and yes today I was on my phone but the other times I was not so please explain to me why did I still receive that type of treatment from your staff! Now I'm not sure if you are racist or a rude individual yourself since you support this type of behavior! This can probably be the reason your staff think that it is okay to behave this way! I am not the first nor the last person of color to complain about the rudeness and unprofessionalism that your staff possess! If you read all of your reviews there is another black person saying the exact same thing! My report about your cafe will not end here! And anyone else who is black or of another ethnic group that comes and complain I will urge them to leave a review and take it further if the mis treatment and poor customer service continues! Not a true coffee shop with properly trained staff. I asked for 12 shots of espresso to be pulled as long shots, she verbally said “okay” and received 2-8oz cups filled half way of product. So received a total of 8oz of espresso. Was told after the fact they don’t pull long shots.

The 8oz of espresso I did received isn’t even enough to be regular shots. 1 shot is roughly 1.5oz of product. 1 Longshot is roughly 2oz of product. They need more training.

What a waste of $20. I even tipped thinking they would get it right 🥴

edit Since you responded, the espresso I ordered is for a tiramisu cake as stated above and not for me to consume straight. Adding water to a shot that has been extracted does not create a long shot. Again proving the staff (and person replying) isn’t trained well.

If you guys want to use a manual machine to extract coffee then you need to learn the proper way to extract coffee. Otherwise just get an automatic machine that requires only a button and takes the guesswork out.

I've been here a few times in the past couple of weeks. I generally stick to an iced coffee and maybe a pastry. The quality is consistent for both beverages and food. I recommend both the grilled veggies salad and the deluxe grilled cheese, which was what brought me in today. My daughter is 8 and off of school so I thought a nice lunch would be fun. There were three employees working and none were particularly thrilled to be forced to interact with me, nor was I able to get just general information from them to assist my ordering. I don't care if they thought I was asking stupid questions or not, I do care that I spent $30 on what was intended to be a nice little outing with my kid and left with the feeling I wasn't welcome or appreciated as a customer. That sucks. MCL is in the same parking lot and we could have had a much better experience for the same amount of money, but I was hoping to share this place with someone special to me. That didn't happen. I'll still be stopping in to get a coffee in passing, but I'm not going to bring my mom here when she's up from Nashville. I don't want to be embarrassed by their apathy or inattentive approach...
