Really disappointed in Northside Kitchenette. My girlfriend and I visited here once before and enjoyed the food but found the beverages to be terrible. The orange juice was terrible, as was the water and coffee. Nonetheless, we figured it was a problem easily resolved by simply purchasing and bringing our own bottle of fresh-squeezed orange juice. We figured if there was an issue, someone would let us know. The manager, Susan or something, I don't recall, spoke to us upon entering. She clearly eyeballed the bottle of juice in my hand, and said nothing. Our waitress also was curious about the bottle, but voiced no issues, and even brought us a glass for the juice. Everything was going swimmingly, until about 2/3 of the way through our meal, the manager suddenly storms over and declares that we can't bring our own juice. It's a health code violation. Clearly, there must be food police lying in wait in the bushes to merit such an outburst. I calmly informed her that I'd be happy to purchase a beverage at the restaurant, but all the beverages we were interested in and tried, were terrible. We actually did purchase a vanilla coffee this time as well. She then repeated herself about no outside food, and health codes. I said ok that's fine, but we won't be back. The proper beverage is essential in my opinion to properly enjoy a meal. She said fine, that's great, health codes and violations, and stumbled away to stare at the register and continue doing nothing. So here's the problem: had I been informed upon entering that my oj wasn't allowed, there'd have been no problem. I would have accepted it, and we would have left for another one of the multitude of equal-quality breakfast spots. Or she could have kindly mentioned it at the end, as we were leaving. But the fact that she saw it, multiple other employees saw it, and there was no problem is what makes it all weird. The fact that she was looking right at us as we ate, and then chose to barge in just past the halfway point and loudly declare that we couldn't do what we were doing, was really uncomfortable. The juice was almost gone at this point too. It's fresh-squeezed juice from Fresh Thyme's juicery btw, absolutely delicious. Anyway, she clearly didn't care that she ruined our experience and drove away customers. My girlfriend and I had discussed making this a regular spot for us, but now we will never come back. There are far too many other restaurants to choose from. I've brought beverages in to more restaurants than I can remember and never once has anyone said anything. As a business owner myself, I know how important proper management is. The fact that this old cow just stood around talking the entire time, and also cost this business owner customers, is a really bad sign. I'd be furious if it was my business. Managers are supposed to lead by example, not stand around flapping their gums while they collect a fatter paycheck than the rest of the team who is carrying their dead weight. Anyway, if you've read this far, I hope you've enjoyed my essay. To summarize: it's time to put the old cow out to pasture, and let her have more time at home with her multiple cats. She's clearly not a...
Read moreNever before in my life have I ever written a review for a restaurant, or anyplace for that matter. However, the service provided to me and my friends at Northside Kitchenette was so unique and splendid that I felt it my obligation to write of the event.
First a foremost the food is amazing. I personally loved my breakfast sandwich in which I was able to substitute Scramby Eggs for the usual over easy. Their in-house chocolate milk was the finest concoction of chocolate to milk ratio I have ever had the pleasure of partaking in the digestion of.
More than anything else, our server Leann was an absolute treasure. When I said, "Can I ask a very childish question?" Her immediate response was, "You want chocolate milk?" The sort of intuition is only seen in top tier servers in the brunch industry. When our food came, I jokingly said that "I was told my meal came with a toy." She responded by providing me with a toy that had been left behind in the lost and found. Truly, not only a professional server but a comedienne the likes of which have never been seen before. In all seriousness she provided the perfect ratio of excellent service and friendly banter that makes a brunch so personal.
Leann, should you ever see this review. I want you to know that if you ever need anything in the future, I will gladly be of assistance. Need a reference on a job application? I will sing your praises. Need a recommendation on where to stay on an out of state/country trip? I will personally be your travel advisor. Running late to work? I will grab a servers book and imitate your wonderful service to the best of my abilities.
To summarize, I would give my life for Northside Kitchenette. Reasonable prices for amazing food. Made my College Roommate Reunion a memorable experience.

Read moreThis was our second time visiting this spot for breakfast. It’s a moderately sized establishment located in the inside corner of a small shopping mall, just to the right of the North Side Social Club. There’s both indoor and heated outdoor seating, with plenty of options—tables, split booths, and diner-style seating. The restaurant has an industrial-modern feel, with cement floors, bright white walls, and neutral decor.
The menu is small but offers a little something for everyone. Since we had only been here once before, we relied on our server’s recommendations. I debated between the Eggs Benedict and the Kitchen”ette” Sink and ultimately went with the latter—just like last time. This is a hearty breakfast: a half-order of biscuits and gravy topped with breakfast potatoes, bacon crumbles, two eggs over easy, and cheddar cheese. You can add avocado for $2 or chorizo for $3, but I kept it as is. It was just as good as I remembered. I also ordered a side of sourdough toast—perfect for soaking up that delicious sausage gravy.
My wife had scrambled eggs, potatoes, turkey sausage, and French toast. She enjoyed her meal but found the turkey sausage dry, rubbery, and lacking flavor.
The coffee was hot and delicious, the service was great, and the place was clean with plenty of free parking. If you’re in Broad Ripple for breakfast and want good food with quick, dependable service, give this place a try—I think you’ll...
