Canal Bistro — Restaurant in Indianapolis

This is by far our favorite restaurant to celebrate our special occasions. Our server this evening was Lindsey and she was so sweet. I let her know that I couldn’t have some ingredients because I am pregnant and she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. She explained multiple different dishes/appetizers and the ingredients in them and that was beyond helpful. I also really wanted cherry coke and she was able to make one for me even though they didn’t carry cherry coke specifically. I normally get the açaí blueberry martini and it is always my favorite. My husband got a Guinness and she offered a glass to go with it as well. We ordered the saganaki flaming cheese and it was wonderful! We’ve been coming here for at least 5 years now and this was our first time getting that and it most definitely won’t be the last! I ordered a greek salad with no feta and they always have the perfect amount of dressing on the salad. It also came out before my meal which was very pleasant. My husband ordered the lamb shank and the meat was falling off the bone, it was that good! I got the shawarma chicken platter and again Lindsey was wonderful and explained both the side sauces it comes with, so I knew which I could have with my meal. She was attentive but not hovering which was nice since we were spending our 8yr anniversary together. I definitely needed a box for my leftovers because the portions are wonderful! We also ordered the baklava togo and it came out very quick. Lindsey made such a personal connection with us and we most definitely will be back and make sure to ask for her because she was the sweetest! She even gave me some recommendations on where to buy prenatal vitamins if I needed them. She was so sweet and I can’t wait to go back for the atmosphere, drinks, food, and fabulous...

Great food great service. Absolutely stuffed. Had the calamari, gyros platter and the lamb shank. Really tender and juicy, wonderful

4/27/2024 It has been a minute since we've been in this restaurant. And of course, it was just as good as it always is. The food, the atmosphere the service was all great. At this time, I wanna tell about our server. The server her name was Rema , I am not sure if I spelled her name properly, She was absolutely magnificent professional kind smiles. Thank you everything, and it was very genuine. The theme with this young lady that impressed me was not just the extraordinary service, but who she was. I'm just gonna say wonderful woman , someone whose culture is in a major state of crisis and to hear Her speak about it. how her family was born and raised there. Even though she wasn't, how heartbreaking it is due to what's happening. This discussion started due to a wonderful tattoo on her arm that I ask about ,she explained what it was. It hit me know the tragedy of what's happening and it just kept on my mind through the whole meal. It was a moment the realization a moment of learning a moment of feeling compassion and empathy towards another individual. Prayers for you, ancestors and the situation Rema. My boyfriend and I ate there this weekend, for our birthday, and really loved it. It was only one block from the house we rented. The staff was very friendly and the lady who greeted us told us to find a place to sit anywhere we'd like. It's so pretty inside, reminded me of Italy. It's simple inside but beautiful, nice lighting for a calm ambiance, even romantic. We ordered goat cheese bruschetta for an appetizer, which was ahhmazing. The cheese was so smooth and paired so well with the topping of tomatoes, Cilantro & other stuff (was alot like pico de gallo but with some pesto). They served it with bread instead of pita chips, which we loved. My boyfriend ordered the lamb chops and he seriously loved it. He said the meat felt very high vibe (the energy). I ordered a gyro sandwich with fries, adding garlic and feta cheese because we read on yelp how bomb it was! And they were! So we are passing that tip along! The gyro is amazing, soooo amazing, really rich flavors and so filling so I only ate half. Our waitress brought us baklava since it was our birthday, which was really nice. Oh! And someone please try the French red wine, I've already forgotten the name which is a tragedy....
