I went to the farmers market by Broad Ripple High School all summer long and came to know the fabulous breads and such presented by the Brotgarten. Intrigued we went to eat at the Perk up cafe last Saturday expecting something fabulous. Unfortunately it was just barely palpable food with ok service. My son had the ham and cheese sandwich, which was advertised as superb. It was some white bread grill with cheese nothing outstanding, and the (5) shriveled up grapes did nothing to enhance it. I had the Pretzel stick with Bratwurst and sourcraut on the side. The pretzel stick was good and the Bratwurst okay. Again the (5) shriveled grapes to the side added nothing to the dish. My son had Iced Tea and I myself just chose water, the bill bill game to a little under $21.00, which is not bad if it would have been a good lunch but it was not. On another note, there was no fresh bread or the smell thereof in the Restaurant as alluded to on the website. Dogs were inside the Restaurant, and although I love animals, having to climb over dogs to get your food was not so pleasant. All in all it was a total disappointment. I expected exceptional food and was totally and utterly...
Read moreFood was 4 due to price vs size. Expected higher price but the sandwich I got was 1/2 a standard sandwich size (the Rolled something or other sandwich)... Also, and a BIG negative was - we typically won't eat at a restaurant with no prices on the menu. This experience solidified that goal by serving us 2 Plastic Cups of Tap Water that cost us $5.00 plus tax ... No mention was made that "We do have to charge for water" or anything... Just boom, on the bill and paid... (These were clear plastic 10 oz with some ice which quickly melted)... Talk about something that makes good food leave a bad taste in your mouth..
There is limited seating outside where we did eat, but nothing special ...
2 sandwiches, 2 glasses of water and a cup of coffee...$31.00 Menus with prices would have made us prepared and conditioned for the cost ... Now we're just not...

Update: I think I just visited here for the last time, so disappointing. My family lived In Germany for about 15 years and this is one of my favorite places, for the food, the coffee, and the traditional German delicacies.
However, after spending $53 for coffee, a loaf of bread and 4 breakfast items, I was told we couldnât have a small cup of ice so our daughter could have a few sips of our coffee, for less than $1.50
I work in fine dining and treat my guests like gold, every single time. I donât feel like I received a very friendly service today. It was as if the cashier was afraid to give me a cup of ice in fear of the ownerâs response. I personally think the owners are lovely and would be more hospitable to their full-paying guests, repeat customers.
Super bummed,...
