We've been customers here for years. The staff are pretty friendly and efficient, and the store is usually stocked and clean. It can be a bit condensed with the narrow aisles, especially on busier days, and when they're stocking items it's even more difficult to navigate. My main complaint is about the bento(s), as they've fluctuated in both price and quality. I know the Japanese take pride in a dish's presentation rather than its quality, and it's been put into practice here as of recent it would seem.
I'm uncertain if it's staff in training, but the other week I had spent $12 on a premade katsu curry bento and the curry sauce was extremely watered down. I don't like to waste food or money, but it was so unappetizing that I had tossed it after a few spoonfuls of curry and rice. They also don't include a sufficient amount of fukujinzuke in the curry bento, either.
I'm genuinely curious as to why the curry bento is priced that high when the ingredients are not the most expensive separately, and when the portions are that small and the quality that low. It certainly didn't feel as if it was $12 worth of culinary skill. With all that being said, when the curry is prepared by someone with more experience and skill...it is absolutely delicious. Dare I say, うまい! Their curry is what got me hooked on it in the first place, and now it's one of my favorite foods.
But with the current state of things, I'd prefer to play less "curry roulette". I think it would be best if the bento were properly marked with a big sticker to let us know it was made by someone in training and reduced in price; kind-of like a "student chef"...
Read moreI stopped by One World Market for lunch, and I’m so glad I did! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how organized and well-stocked the store was. It had a great selection of Japanese products, making it a fun place to browse while picking up a meal.
Near the cashier area, I noticed an extensive sushi roll menu, which made it easy to choose from a variety of fresh options. Since I wasn’t sure how big the rolls would be, I picked out two — only to realize later just how large and filling they actually were! The best part? Each order came with a side of soup. I didn’t need both, so I asked for just one, and they had no problem accommodating my request.
Once I got my food, I was immediately impressed by the quality of the sushi. The rolls were fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned — definitely a great value for the price. Every bite was delicious, and the ingredients tasted high-quality and well-prepared. I also picked up a Japanese lemon soft drink C.C. Lemon from the back of the store, which was a perfect refreshing drink to go with my meal.
Overall, my experience at One World Market was fantastic. The store is clean, well-organized, and offers a great selection of Japanese groceries and fresh-made sushi. The staff was helpful and efficient, and the food exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality sushi in a casual and convenient setting, this is the place to go. I’ll definitely...
Read moreThis market is my most treasured find in Indiana, doubling as a restaurant. Despite being Korean, I have a deep affection for Japanese cuisine, visiting Japanese restaurants at least once a week back in Korea and occasionally traveling to Japan itself.
While staying in Indiana for studies, I often found myself craving Japanese dishes like sushi, ramen, and katsudon. However, the Japanese restaurants I bravely visited were invariably expensive and offered dishes that seemed more like Chinese interpretations of Japanese cuisine rather than authentic Japanese food.By chance, I discovered this place and was instantly overjoyed at the sight of Japanese cuisine. I ordered ramen, sushi, and katsudon, gyudon, without hesitation. The ramen boasted a rich broth that I found incredibly satisfying, the sushi was delicious, and the unagi sushi, in particular, was exceptional. The katsudon and gyudon were also delightful, making me feel as if I was enjoying genuinely authentic Japanese food after a long time.
Given its reasonable prices, friendly staff, and the chance to enjoy Japanese products (especially Choco Biscuits, like the ones Crayon Shin-chan enjoys), I see no reason to go anywhere else. This place has it all for someone longing for a taste of...
