This is only my second review, but let me share my Ale Emporium warning with you. This first issue really ruffled my feathers. The chicken wing orders can only have one sauce added, so you can get an order of 24 wings for $32 + $2 for a sauce ($34 total) or you can get 2 orders of 12 for $20 + $1.50 per sauce ($43 total) which is a massive rip off and the restaurant knows it is, otherwise they’d let you split an order between two sauces. Why are you forcing me to pay $9 extra to coat half of my wings in a different sauce? It is absolutely unacceptable that you would price wings solely to rip off customers who might actually enjoy your quality wings. And why are you charging $2 for such a light drizzling of sauce? If you’re charging that much for sauce, douse the the wings in the sauce or give extra on the side. Stop squeezing every last cent out of customers who are happy to pay for quality food. This restaurant location literally has the worst takeout process ever conceived by a sentient being in this reality or any other plane of existence. There is a hut in the middle of a parking lot that you have to drive through to pay. The line was 10 cars deep, blocked multiple parking spots, and congested the already crowded parking lot. Then, once you pay, they don’t have the food in the hut so you pull around to the side of the restaurant to wait for the one person walking the food out to dozens of cars waiting, one order at a time. This process could be fixed by having the customer go inside, pay, and take their own food out. It is nonsensical, a massive waste of time for everyone involved, a logistical nightmare, and a travesty I will never participate in again. I ordered at 4:04 pm and was told my order would take 35-40 minutes to prepare. I show up at 4:40 and walk into the restaurant where none of the workers seem to be doing anything- no worker behind the bar, a “please seat yourself” sign (which totally makes sense, seeing as the workers cannot be bothered with such menial tasks as attending to patrons), and 3 workers standing by the kitchen door chatting between themselves, oblivious to the fact I was trying to get their attention. I made contact with one who told me the only way to get my order is to drive up to the window outside. I go back out to pull my car around and wait 20 minutes in the line, pay, and my food still isn’t ready. I wait another 20 minutes until my food is brought out to my car. I put her in gear at 5:23 pm, nearly and hour and 20 minutes after I ordered. Burger patty was horrendous. Pizza was great. The extremely overpriced chicken wings with an exploitative and manipulative pricing scheme were on point, but not worth the ever-present knowledge of being blatantly scammed.
Overall rating: 2/10
Will I return? I would rather pick every single hair off of my entire body one by one (with tweezers, of course) than go through the convoluted takeout process at this location again. On top of that, you add the psychological damage of knowing you’re being taken advantage of if you want more than one sauce on your wings. I will never return.
TL;DR Foul pricing scheme for delicious chicken wings, atrocious takeout process, good pizza. Go to a different location for takeout orders. Only get one sauce...
Read moreIn town for business, we stumbled across the Ale Emporium. It came highly recommended by some locals so we decided to give it a try.
It was busy when we arrived and there was a band setting up. We were told seating was open but we quickly found a table by the bar. Within five minutes, a server stopped by to deliver menus. I am not sure how he could tell we just sat down, other than he knew the room. Either way, he said he would be right back to get us started.
A quick glance at the beer list and we were very impressed. They list all the local Indy beers together, Indiana beers, and then everything else. It is always fun to try local craft beers and the Ale Emporium made it easy.
When our server came back, we were only ready for drinks as we could not decide on food. Even though he looked very busy, he never made us feel rushed or get annoyed (he very well could have with how busy it was). In just a few minutes, he was back with the beer and took our food order.
The apps came out quickly and tasted wonderful. While we waited we had a few other employees ask if there was anything we needed. Everyone we met was friendly and extremely helpful. You can tell they all care and work well as a team to make sure the customer has a wonderful experience.
Our food was delivered quickly with the same enthusiasm and care as the rest of the night. Our meals were wonderfully prepared. As with the rest of the evening, care was taken to make sure we had a wonderful experience.
Shortly after we sat down, the band started to play. I am not sure who they were, but they had a great mix. We could only see part of the crew, but it appeared to be a large band. There were different singers and each one was as good as the last.
Overall, the experience at Ale Emporium was fantastic. From the food to the team, they did not disappoint. I would suggest them to anyone in the area looking for a fun and...
