Today was only my second time getting food from here, despite it being in my neighborhood for years. I don't know how many times since it opened that we have said "you know, we really ought to try that place sometime." But I would like to go back in time and shake that former me, because we have missed out on so many fantastic meals over the years!
Today I tried the chicken curry ramen for the first time, and my wife got the oyako shoyu ramen. Last time I had the pork tan tan shoyu. I went to pick it up today and saw that they also have an awesome looking lunch menu that includes a lunch portion of a rice meal, a bowl of soup, and 6 gyoza. I wish that was published on their website, because I would have ordered from that!
I am just blown away by this place. I'll readily admit that I haven't had a lot of gourmet ramen experiences in my life. This is maybe the third place I've been to. But the quality of the food is just outstanding. I had some shoyu broth leftover after my wife and I finished our lunch, and even that by itself was just out of this world delicious. Silky without being greasy, flavorful without being overly salty, and just perfectly balanced in my opinion. The chicken curry was spicy enough to satisfy my craving for spicy, but I don't think it would have burned anyone's mouth out. Tender, fresh chicken. Same with the vegetables they use. And the noodles are just perfect.
Their gyoza are amazing, though I have not tried all the different varieties they have. There are so many delicious sounding menu options that I will definitely keep coming back to try new things. If I had one complaint, I would say that for soup, the place is a bit on the pricey side - but I can't even really commit strongly to that opinion, because it's so delicious that I really believe that you get real value for the money you spend. And now that I know they have a lunch menu that's a bit more reasonably priced for a midday meal, I really can't complain at all!
If you live nearby and, like me, have seen this place a bunch of times and just have not stopped in, DO IT! If this kind of food is your thing, I can just about guarantee you will not be disappointed. If you find yourself in the area and want someplace unique that is not another chain or corporate business, TRY THIS!
What a gem! For a place like this to stay in business for all these years in this location, I should have known it must be something special. So glad we finally decided to...
Read moreI visited here with my family for the first time. Even though the outside area looked kind of rough, I still felt pretty good about the restaurant since I had heard it was pretty popular. After walking in, I was underwhelmed at the appearance of the interior and how small it was, but I still kept my hopes up. For me, the deal-breaker was going to be the service and the food.
The menu (on the counter and on the wall behind the counter) was surprisingly small and simple, but it was clear and had pictures and each ramen bowl had a description of what was included in them. It looked like they only offered five different ramen bowls, that then could be customized further with add-ons. They have full portion ramen bowls and half portion ramen bowls for half the price. They have some other side items, like gyoza, too. After ordering there's a counter with self-serve water and I guess tea? I got water and it tasted fine.
I was in a party of six and the ordering and seating process was easy. The hostess was the only one taking care of the front (both hosting and serving the food), and she was helpful and did a good job.
I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen, and I was pleased with the appearance of my ramen as well as the taste, temperature, and spiciness.
The only thing I didn't like as much was the prices. They were a bit high for what you get. However, in my considering how few ramen places there are around town and the fact that this a specialty ramen restaurant, I'm not totally discouraged by the prices. I would personally come back to this restaurant. I love ramen and am always on the lookout for good ramen places.
Overall, I like this restaurant. I'd agree this place is what people call a hole-in-the-wall restaurant (definitely not upscale), but it's not that bad a place. There were plenty of people who came through while...
Read moreAbsolutely! One of my favorite Indianapolis private restaurants. The food is incredibly healthy Flavorful and fresh. It is a pleasure to eat in a sit down restaurant at the facility because everything is clean with nice background, music and relaxing. Do you enjoy any type of noodle dish you would buy at the store to cook yourself at home? This food will blow you away. Fresh vegetables. Delicious meat savory flavors abound to blackened potstickers are probably the best I've ever had. I've had them in New York, San Francisco, and LA and you've got to come check out this hip trendy Korean noodle house located in the north side of Indianapolis near 75th and binford. Take the drive. Try the food you will be back when I cannot get to the store I order for delivery. I love the fact that I have enough food to have leftovers from one meal ... Now if you just let me get back in the kitchen with the owner chef and get that recipe and training on how to cook the blackened pot stickers.... Served with the delicious nippy soy-based ginger-infused dipping sauce that will drive you crazy.. I literally can eat their food every day. I don't think I would ever tire of it and it's so fresh and clean just know that you're going to be eating me much more complex version with a thicker noodle than the ramen noodles that you all know and love. You...
