Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Indianapolis

It is now 9:34 1/29/2019. I just went to this location less than 30 minutes ago. I go through the drive thru and ask for a Wisconsin butter with no cheese, the girl in the drive through acts as though she was busy so I had to repeat myself. I tell her my order then pulls up so that the car behind me can get to the speaker. I had 2 cars in front of me and I watch the car at the window for a total of 8 minutes. I was feeling pretty joyful tonight so I did not care too much. Maybe it was busy🤷🏾‍♂️. After 17 long minutes I finally get to the window. Everything seemed normal, multiple employees walking around briskly, the girl at the window is behind the wall so I assumed that she was busy putting in orders. I paid for my food, she cashed me out and she is constantly going back behind the wall to what I assume was the cash register, she gives me my food, I told her thank you and I got a window to the face. I figured maybe she is busy putting in orders. I Start to drive off, look back into the window just out of curiosity. This girl is playing on her phone like she is going to lose it tomorrow. Not only that I checked the burger and guess what...it had cheese. Life is wonderful...

Everything was fine at first. They seemed busy but we got seated fast. Our drink orders and meals orders right away. Our drinks came correct our food did not. We mentioned it right away and told it would be corrected. We waited 10 min and decided to eat what we got because it wasn't bring fixed. We were trying to be understanding. Then we waited 20 min for a check that never came. We went to the front and it took another 15 min to check out. They lost our check apparently. After 35 min of trying to leave I put down money and said here I just want to go. I was told I couldn't do that. We finally paid and left. I don't blame the server she was trying even though she was messing up. The guy who appeared to be the manager was rude to everyone. His staff and customers. I couldn't believe it. He yelled at people to leave. He wouldn't even apologize for the inconveniences. In my opinion your staff is only as good as your management. He didn't want to help and caused his staff to fail. Worst experience ever. Coming from eastern PA we usually look forward to eating here. Guess not anymore with...

This is hard for me because Steak'n Shake is hands down one of my favorite burger joints. The service was FAST, the order was correct and the food (save the milkshake) was delicious and predictable (which is a good thing in this case).

The three stars is because of an unnecessary menu change from a classic. The Very Berry Strawberry Milkshake was one of the primary reason I come to Steak'n Shake. I order several when we are there and the whole family enjoys them. It was a true authentic milkshake experience. And for the brand of a place (it's the company namesake) to be so closely tied to their milkshakes...it just seems like one of those truly bad ideas, maybe to save a buck....

Given the regular milkshake is made with a gross strawberry syrup or shake base, it's not something I would order again. In fact, I threw half of this one away it was so bad. Kids didn't even finish theirs...which maybe is a good thing from a health perspective. If they no longer have the shakes as the draw...is there really a reason to go? There are so many other burger options now with an equally good burger....
