The Med is the former and much loved THE LEGEND in Irvington. The Legend was far superior in quality and selections to what has now taken it's place.
There are ten dinner entrees. I had hoped to find lamb chops but found none. There is no lamb other than the gyros appetizer which has become almost as American as a ham sandwich and can be found anywhere across the city. There is a pork chop entree, 3 seafood, chicken or pork kabob, dolmades, bell pepper stuffed with beef/rice and a vegetarian 'briami.'
I had the baked chicken with lemon and oregano which comes with Greek style potato wedges with oil/lemon/oregano and herbed green beans. The portion of chicken was ample but did not have any distinctive flavor at all.
The potato wedges were slightly overcooked and did not have the delicacy and softness of traditional Greek lemon, oil/oregano potato wedges; they also were bland. The green beans were the canned variety with the addition of some herbs and were tasteless; I had my hopes set on fresh green beans and was disappointed to see they were inexpensive canned. My spouse had the walleye which was a generous piece, deep fried and was very good. There are pasta entrees; however there are plenty of places that we have been to with excellent pasta dishes so we were not interested. We shared the Tzatziki yogurt/sauce/dip which came with excellent warmed pita triangles.
The staff is very young, early to mid 20's. Our waitress was attentive, pleasant and we liked her. There are teen boys who serve as runners and bus boys. One of the boys brought the appetizer and then held it up in front of him at our table for what seemed like an eternity; finally I had to reach up and take it from him--what was that about?
Another teen staff sat on a bench nearby fiddling with his phone. I had to say 'pardon me' because I could not get past him to leave at the end of the evening as the area was narrow; he looked up at us puzzled, moved his legs and went back to his phone. There was no experienced adult manager in charge of this very young staff.
Legend's booths were ample, very comfortable and roomy. The Med, while redesigned with a Greek motif and attractive with the makeover, the new booths in the bar which replaced The Legend's former brown ones are miserably tight, thinly padded and the backs are at a 90 degree angle, uncomfortable to one's back and neither of us are big people! We saw two big guys try to squeeze into one of the booths, grimace and then asked the hostess for a table; we should have done the same thing. The booths look attractive in design but in terms of comfort are so narrow and the table too wide, your whole torso is practically in your plate as you feel wedged in.
Wine/beer: The Med does have a diverse wine list and also beers. We opted for a dry rose which was chilled and excellent.
The inexperience of the young staff showed yet again. We only drank half the bottle; we paid our bill and began to leave with the bottle in my hand; the staff just smiled and thanked us. I asked politely if I could have a wine bag. They looked momentarily 'thrown' but then one of the girls handed me a plastic bag. In almost all the restaurants we go to across the city, the servers are trained to ask at the table before the guests leave if they would like a bag for the wine, sees to it and almost always they place the bottle in a wine bag for the guest.
I'm not sure what The Med is trying to communicate as it's culinary identity. Whatever it is trying to be, the overall experience was a disappointment.
We left, mourning the loss of our beloved The Legend with its superb dinner entrees. We...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is me updating my review. I wonāt be ordering from here again for a long time. Iām really getting sick of not getting what I order and wasting my money.
The picture shows either angel hair or spaghetti pasta. Texture matters here. I ordered the shrimp and pasta and creamy red sauce BECAUSE it was spaghetti. I added the pictures of the menu and what I was handed.
If you use a different pasta than what is on the menu you need to tell the customer when theyāre making the order so they can decide if they want it still. Or if you started using a different pasta, or itās random-THE MENU NEEDS TO REFLECT THAT. Iām really upset this keeps happening because I want to support local businesses and when the order is correct or cooked correctly itās really good.
But this is absolutely unacceptable. We will be taking a year+ hiatus from The Med. maybe by then they will get it together. Iām so angry and frankly sad yall canāt seem to get this right.
ETA-we keep running into this issue after 5pm, when Iāve ordered earlier in the day itās perfect.
This keeps happening and it really breaks my heart because I love the food here.
Guys. Rice pudding is very simple to make, but more importantly itās really obvious itās not done correctly or long enough when putting in the containers. Itās supposed to be thick and creamy, like PUDDING. If itās not pudding consistency and sticky-please ask the customer if they want it substituted or maybe just take it off the menu until itās cooked long enough to be the correct dish.
This is the third time in about a year this has happened, 3/5 times Iāve ordered this. I keep getting undercooked rice, (as far as rice pudding goes. In essentially watery cream. There is a training and quality issue there that is not being addressed.
I will say that every time Iāve had to call they are good about refunding it or giving a credit for next time-but itās frankly ridiculous that for rice pudding of all things, this keeps happening.
Start it earlier in the day
2.Do not serve it to customers if itās liquidy at all, (again, itās PUDDING, it has to cook long enough to thicken to the right consistency. If itās not something you need to shake off the spoon itās not done).
And PLEASE train kitchen staff on how to correctly make this simple dish and have better quality control before it leaves the kitchen.
There is no reason for this to keep happening. I like this dish when itās made correctly because I donāt love spending 2 hours making my own and having way too much to eat. Iām really disappointed that this is apparently becoming a recurring issue and itās souring me on getting food from there at all. Which sucks because there is often...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have mostly been to The Med at lunch time on Mondays . We always have had Andreas and he is amazing . Heās knowledgeable of all the food and wine . He does a presentation of deboning a sea bass thatās really neat to watch . He makes sure there is no bones in it . Heās always friendly , smiles a lot , doesnāt rush us when we are ordering . Canāt say anything negative about him . The food at The Med is delicious . I havenāt had any problem with anything I have ordered . Itās always hot when it comes out . The lemon soup is yummy and complimentary. Saturday evening a few of us went to have dinner . We were all satisfied with our food . I had the lemon oregano chicken . It was very good . A lot to eat but we were all sharing anyway . I do have to mention 1 thing that I compared to my previous visits , mind you i have always had Andreas for our server but the older lady we had this evening did not want to be there and she was not trying to keep it from anyone . Very grumpy and straight faced . No drink refills , no soup , no smile . Made us feel more like a bother than guests . I hope she was just having a bad night and this isnāt her norm . The restaurant decor is nice and the restaurant is...
