My daughter and I are here in LA on our vacation . I saw this restaurant featured on Good Morning America and was extremely excited to have dinner here. As we drove up to the front of the restaurant we saw the long line waiting on the side walk, but it did not prevent us from coming to place a order because we were willing to wait & pay for good soul food. After they took our order at the window there was a sign that stated from that point it would be 20 mins. That was a “joke”!! My daughter and I stood waiting for over 40mins as other customers that ordered “AFTER” us received their orders first!!!. Our number was order no# 104 and we heard them call 105,106, 107 up to 111. My daughter then asked the young lady at the window what happened to “our” order??? She asked: what was your order no# again??? which we told her it was 104.. then she realized and said our ticket did not print “inside” for anyone to fulfill your order!!! We waited all that time ( in the cold wind) outside on the sidewalk for this food!! They didn’t realize they didn’t have our order!!!! ... I was just ready to ask for a refund when they “finally” handed over our order. I must say it was a “disappointment” for the cost of $52 bucks and the long wait… It “was not worth it!!” They tried to create the flavor with a lot of salt and sugar. Trust me folks “I cook soul food”. I’m from the south and you don’t need a lot of salt to make soul food flavorful!!! . We ordered the fried chicken dinner which had a nice flavor of oregano and seasonings “but it was too salty!”We also ordered collards which was just okay but there was “too” many stems…Dulan family please “remove” the stems from your greens then your greens would be more flavorful. The Mac & cheese taste like they used just velvetta cheese and that’s it. We also ordered the fried fish which was good!! My daughter enjoyed the fish. The Orka & corn with stewed tomatoes had too much sugar or something sweet..It was okay but not “comfort”food I’m accustomed to. What happened to onions, fresh garlic, peppers and natural herbs for flavor. Not Salt!! Okay now the dessert was very disappointing too. I ordered “sweet potato pie” which is my favorite dessert and peach cobbler. The pie was too “sweet”. Folks there should be a perfect balance of vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, a little orange zest and the natural taste of sweet potatoes in sweet potato pie… All I was tasting was “sugar!!” Was it a “sugar pie”!!!!! And the peach cobbler i think may have been apple pie..It didn’t taste like peach cobbler at all. “Well”!!!!… LA peeps..I know you may think Dulan’s is a good soul food restaurant.. but it’s just “okay” It’s “not” a excellent comfort soul food restaurant . Folks come to Florida, Atlanta Ga or North Carolina then you’ll know what real comfort soul food is suppose to taste like!!!!. Also Dulan family work on your ordering process so your customers won’t wait so long to drop their hard earned money on simi- okay food Sorry but i had to...
Read moreAhh, where to start? Well I, was in the Wood, had not been there in a long minute. Never been to Dulan’s before. I’ve been to other soul food places but left disappointed. I asked the lot/ security attendant what his fave was, without hesitation replied the oxtail plate. Well my old battle axe beat me to it and she ordered it with mashed potatoes and okra and corn on the side. I “settled” for ordering the short rib plate with green beans and carrots and red beans and rice (hollah @ yo unc, nephew). The first bite sensory overload, my pallet was overwhelmed by so much flavor, but not so much that it left and unpleasant after taste. The short rib had a good mix of meat and fat(for those of you who do not like fatty meat, This is not your plate). The short rib came one bed of white rice, savory, the green beans and carrots full of flavor not just boiled and slapped on my plate. Every bite was a celebration of culinary delight. The red beans and rice was a combination of chili bean and rice with plenty of flavor to make every bite an enjoyable side. I tried the old battle axe’s plate, the oxtail super delicious, tender, juicy, oh so juicy. The mashed potatoes wholesome, the corn & okra flavorful. Now for the peach cobbler, full of cinnamon but not overpowering, delicious crust, sweet but not sugar comma inducing. I’m gonna keep it 100% food is so good it is easy to over indulge. Eat here everyday at your own peril cause it’s that tasty, but if you are in need of comfort, this is the place. This food will lift up your spirits. Now about the eating area, clean, no dirty mop smell, rated A. I, want to give a shout out to Adarius (service mgr.), and the owner Terry. Both were friendly and welcoming (made me feel like I got invited to the cookout). The waitress Q was also a friendly person and had a great attitude while serving our table. Went out of her way to give me information about the area. I recommend this place for its food, service and cleanliness. I’ve been to other eateries where the looked at me cross eyed, felt like just wanted my money and wanted me gone. Would’ve gotten a slap on the back of the head for asking for a refill. Dulan’s is a placer that everyone...
