A Flavorful Journey to Remember: Fufu and Egusi Soup Delight Nestled in a cozy corner of taste, my recent culinary escapade led me to a delightful rendezvous with fufu and goat egusi soup. With each spoonful, this dish painted a canvas of flavors that lingered long after the meal. The dish arrived, textures and aromas. The fufu, creamy and inviting, stood as a perfect partner to the hearty egusi soup. The leafy goodness within the soup added a touch of freshness, complementing the rich and savory undertones. As I took my first bite, a subtle yet distinct spiciness danced on my taste buds. It was the kind that gently awakened the palate without overpowering the dish's other dimensions. And that distinctive scent of dry fish, it was a reminder of the dish's authentic origins, telling a story of traditional culinary mastery. What truly sets this dish apart is the freedom to choose your protein – a symphony of options that included beef, chicken, goat, and fish. It seems like the soup itself has fish broth on top of the protein of your choice. Speaking of El Salvador, fufu and egusi soup might feel like a warm embrace from home. The echoes of taste, the familiarity in every bite, transport you to memories that cross borders. It will remind you of (sopa de torta de pescado). The journey was well worth it, for every aspect – the creaminess, the leafy charm, the gentle spice, the reminiscence of dry fish, and the choice of protein – combined to create an experience that beckons a revisit. Their atmospher need some improvement such as updating the inside of the building. Yet the food was authentic and delicious. The owner really took care of me she even called the cook and asked me if I had eaten goat before which I have. I'm definitely coming back

Delicious, Generous Portions – Take It To-Go and Thank the Chef! My wife and I tried the Egusi soup and Okra-Ogbono soup (both without meat), and we were blown away. Each soup came with a serving of Fufu (pounded yam), and we ordered three extras—but we definitely didn’t need that much. The portions are huge. Each soup came in a large to-go container, and we only managed to eat about a third of each. At $20 per soup (even without meat), it’s absolutely worth the price for the quantity and quality. The flavor was outstanding—spicy, rich, and full of depth, even without any meat. We brought the food home, and over an hour later it was still steaming hot. The Fufu was soft, moist, and perfect. No need to reheat. Just a heads-up: both soups come spicy, so be ready for some heat! The highlight of our visit, aside from the food, was the older woman who seemed to be in charge of the kitchen—she might even be the owner. She was incredibly warm, helped us order, and genuinely made us feel welcome. She even asked us to come back if we enjoyed the food. Her kindness left a lasting impression. That said, the front-of-house service could use some work. The cashier was slow, nearly overcharged us, and forgot we had already paid. It was a bit of a mess, even with 3 people running the front. But the food and the kindness from the back of the house more than made up for it. If you’re trying this for the first time, I recommend taking it to-go and enjoying it in the comfort of your home. We’ll definitely be coming back—because the food and that sweet lady made it worth it.

Last night(07/09/21) was my first time to go this restaurant. I placed an order for egusi soup with bitterleaf(2 bowl of soup), a bowl of goat meat pepper soup and 2 additional pounded yam. It was ready in 30 minutes, so I was looking forward to get home to devour my food, but then I realize they gave me the opposite of what I ordered for. Instead of egusi soup with bitterleaf, I got spinach and then the goat meat wasn’t really meat but a bunch of livers and what not. On top of that, it lacked taste; it was completely bland. Even though I specifically said I need goat meat and not a bunch of organs(in Nigeria that would be called assorted if there were real meat inside of it, but this was far from it!). The “goat meat” was even cut into little smaller pieces as if it was chopped. The one star that I gave is for the pounded yam which was good. I felt like I wasted my 63 dollars, not going back for sure.

The food deserves five stars but the service and the wait time gets 1 star from me, which lands me at 3 stars. I didn't think anything of it and went on a Saturday but DO NOT VISIT THIS RESTAUNRANT DURING THE WEEKEND. I got to the restaurant and it was SCORCHING HOT inside. It would make anyone's mood change when you walk in. Customers were arguing over the floor fan rotation I have to admit I was amused by this. Also there were many customers complaining they've been their for over an hr waiting for their food. A gentleman walked in and after being told his order wasn't ready yet got upset because he stated he placed his order via phone call over 2 hours ago. There wasn't a sense of direction of when and who to speak with to take my order for about 5 minutes because there was a combination of customers waiting for their food, dining and waiting to still have their orders taken.

Once the line cleared up a young lady asked what we wanted and I told her it was our first time and if she could explain the ingredients it would be helpful as I have a shellfish allergy. She wasn't knowledgeable of what was in the food. I moved forward with placing my order with having minimal knowledge of what was in it. She never asked for a phone number and I didn't think to give her one. After sitting there for 30 minutes I was really hot and I felt my chest tightening, I decided after there were so many people complaining about the wait, I'll just come back in 90 minutes, that way I'm sure the order would be ready and I can just pay for my food and go.

Boy, was I wrong. I got there about 90 minutes later and the young lady seen me and ran back to the kitchen and an older woman came out and said, "You're Shaneka?" I said yes. She then told me my food was sold to other customers. That she been had it prepared and I didn't leave a number so she sold it to multiple customers who matched what I ordered about 10 minutes ago. I let her know no one asked for my phone number, I attempted to wait but after 30 minutes it was started to affect my asthma, it was my first time and after hearing multiple people complaining about ordering over an hour to 2 hours ago and their food still wasn't ready I figured I would come back so that I can be sure it's going to be ready. She shook her no because they can't rely on customers saying they'll come back and they held it for a while before selling it off. I was both angry but understanding. I couldn't believe what she was telling me, after I first waited for 30 minutes and no signs of anything being done or even giving an estimate of when to expect it done I was tired and overheated from sitting in there so I thought I was using logic after watching several customers come in and complaining they've called 1 to 2 hrs ago and it still not being ready. But I understood if the customer is no longer there and you don't have a way to contact them I would assume they got tired of waiting to.

I then had to wait another 30 minutes and she started looking through other orders trying to piece my order back together. Thank GOD no one else matched mine because I couldn't imagine someone else going through what I just did. She was very apologetic and just seem so exhausted from working all day so I get it but please make sure you guy's get everyone's number that come in to avoid situations...

I did not like my food today. I ordered rice and stew and i wanted hard chicken but got the soft one. For 23 USD the food was trash. Rice was so soft, the stew looked burned and tomatoes where sour as hell smh

I see I first left a review 4yrs ago. I stayed alway from this place 4yrs and came back nothing changed which means they do not care about feedback. It is typical of African businesses to have zero customer service. It is a known fact that most African business but are rude and have attitude. I spend about $50 just to dump the food in the trash because it was sour and tasted spoiled. The guy who took my order(Dami) was nasty and rude as hell. Itching his hair, speaking so loudly on the phone, picking on his pimples on his skin and touching all his personal items just to touch peoples food. A very nonchalant attitude. Didn't even acknowledge or update me the customer until he was done face timing whoever in his language. Another older gentleman was kind enough to show some courtesy. The rice was a big waste. I have had better hollow rice. Never again!!!

10/14/23

My friend is in LA. Told me she wanted African good and I told her to call here and see. She said they were very rude to her. Hung up on her after someone picked up and put her on hold forgetting to mute the phone. Then when she asked after a few mins, they said: "I told you to hold on" as they were in the background casual clowning with each other and talking about coughing on food and all what not. She said after they hung up no one called back so she waited and called again. The lady on the phone who sound led like a Hispanic lady also yelled at her and she thought she called the wrong place out of shock on how unprofessional they were. REPORT THIS PLACE TO THE HEALTH BOARD. VERY NASTY🤢 AND UNPROFESSIONAL IDIOTS. Post it all over social media. Bring and end to this dirty business. I'm sure they are "temporary closed" for health reasons while scheming and only taking cash payments to fool the IRS. Typical of Nigerian control artists. Get all your people to report this trash of a place.

And ohh don't put it passed Nigerians. All the positive reviews here are FAKE...

First time and we are from out of town- stopped by on a Sunday afternoon after visiting the flea market. We got inside at 1:45pm and had to immediately go back to the car to grab jackets and sweaters are it is ARCTIC in there. My daughter has REALLY been wanting to try fufu, so this was her pick. First one of the two servers working asked if we were dining in or taking out- we opted for the former since we had some time before we had to be at our next stop. The server waved us towards a table by the door, gave us menus and went back to serving the customers who were picking up takeout. She swung back to us maybe 30 minutes later with a weak, “sorry for the wait” . We attempted to order the pepper soup, but she told us “that one will take too long” so we took one of her other suggestions. Asked for a ginger beer too. Looked around and saw some folks looking really restless. Turns out they were waiting a long time for their food. One lady started yelling at them about her takeout order that she called in “2 hours ago”. Another table went up and let them know that they had to leave soon. They were given something to snack on and miraculously a few minutes later their food appeared. At some point the server came back to me and told me that they don’t have ginger beer. Bummer. At the 1.5 hour mark we asked her to just make our order to-go, to which she said, “WHY?” We explained that we had somewhere else to be. She said that they were playing the food. We said that we still needed it to-go. More waiting and commiserating with other patrons who were also freezing and frustrated. Just before finally bringing out our food the server again came to hit us with the news that they were out of pounded yam and asked what we would like to substitute. I was done. We said whatever and at the 2 hour mark walked out with our food. Craziness. The rice was nothing special. We ordered a goat dish and got fish instead. The kicker- she charged me for the yams and the ginger beer. AVOID this place. 0 out of 10 do...
