The Green House — Restaurant in Iowa City

Went here for my friend’s birthday. I asked the bartender for a recommendation of a drink that taste the least like alcohol. The person didn’t seem to want to answer the question. I’m not sure what happened but they physically left the conversation (but came back shortly after still not answering the question). Another bartender came, and I asked again. This person told me they are not familiar with the taste of the drinks…which I think is a fault of the management. I ended up ordering a signature cocktail but it tasted awful. We raised the issue with the bartenders but the conversation just went away somehow. They didn’t seem to know how to handle my friend’s birthday. They seem very cold when we told them. My husband and I had a delightful visit to the Green House yesterday afternoon! The servers Claire, Claire, and Cameryn welcomed us into this lovely green Oasis and were super attentive. They gave wonderful suggestions on signature cocktails. I tried 3, all of which were better than the next: Barbarella, "Summer in a Cup", & the Josephine in that order. They also didn't give my husband too much grief for not leaving his Busch light comfort zone (fortunately it is on tap so I can talk him into a return the next time we are in town!). The owner, Emily, was a delight as well. We hope you enjoyed movie night with your daughter and we look forward to visiting when we return to town (fingers crossed that mimosa flights will be added to the menu! 😉). Iowa City is so lucky to have this place!

The owner, Emily Salmonson (sp?), has created an inviting and cozy neighborhood spot that easily transfers from coffee hangout to classy bar.

You're telling me I can bring in outside food and get a cheap ($4) and delicious rose lemonade while soaking in their atmosphere? It's been so fun to get to know all of the bartenders too; they're attentive and make you feel at home. Claire (red hair) and Emmie (longer brown hair) are standouts, though everyone who works there rocks. Emily knows how to hire people!
