Chen's Garden — Restaurant in Irmo

Okay I thought it would give them one more shot and went in there and ordered food today. This place was never good but they have gone from bad to worse. Today I ordered shrimp egg foo Young. Dude absolutely had no flavor and was just awful, the gravy that came with it was very thin watery no flavor no spices. Ordered the coconut shrimp it had so much batter on it it was like a coconut pastry except a coconut pastry would be edible this was not. Also ordered beef with vegetables, well I like crunchy vegetables to a degree the vegetables were totally not cooked at all. Also thought I would give the curry shrimp a try again no flavor not cooked well and just ridiculously awful. Ordered the hot and sour soup that was basically just dirty water. And as usual the lady behind the counter is very rude and while I was sitting there I noticed that she was rude to everybody but every black customer that came in she became very rude extra rude. I was a fool for trying them again. Never go here they really don't deserve to be a business at all.

This was my third time picking up food from this restaurant. I like the egg foo young it's very good however tonight, the sauce was kind of thin as if they didn't add any cornstarch to it which is the normal way to make it but the pancakes I guess I would call them, we're very good. I saw something interesting on the menu called coconut chicken wings and basically it's fried chicken wing that has a coconut sauce poured on it I think the sauce had a little bit of garlic in it or maybe it was garlic powder that was on the chicken wings. I will say that experimenting with that was a mistake. Don't ever order them I cannot recommend those wings at all. Next thing, I had ordered orange beef for my wife and when I got home it was orange chicken. Not only was I disappointed but now I'm afraid to go to sleep because my wife might kill me. Also though I ordered hot and sour soup for my wife, and thank heavens she liked it. I always get the egg drop soup with wontons and that was good. So we had a couple of hiccups I think that could be taken care of and definitely need to add some more cornstarch to the sauce for the egg foo young which is my favorite dish in a fast food Chinese situation. And take the chicken wings with the coconut stuff on it...

Update August 2021 ZERO STARS This lady has some serious anger issues. We were dying hungry, thought we'd try again. How stupid was that idea .. how dumb of us??. Called in asked for ONE, only one, order of whole chicken wings and shrimp egg rolls. We were told "is that all you want? We're really busy. " as if our order wasn't worth cooking. We asked how long. Again "is that all you want" answer yes, it'll be "20 to 30 minutes, We're really busy. " then they asked do we know where they are, we answered, TWICE, We're sitting out front waiting. Told us they are very busy. So we just left and went to Hardee's. After eating the chicken tenders, finished up, crazy woman called from Chens and wanted to know if we wanted the food. We asked, "what food, you said you were busy, so we left", we got "are you coming or not" we asked " did you cook the food if so we'll come get it" no, are you coming or not. I had to hang up. UNREAL THIS PLACE.

Update Dec 2017 Kids were starving no time to cook. Shopping at Wal-Mart burned out so we tried these hacks once more. Egg rolls so soggy with old grease we tossed them. Wings were ok. Teriyaki beef sticks were like jerky. Tsu chicken..... well don't let your cats roam outside near this area.... we all felt ill afterwards. Someone should ins place. NASTY NASTY NASTY

Garbage Chinese food. Tsu and sesame chicken is nothing breading around slivers of unchewable unidentified meat. ....meow. Everything fried is soggy greasy and tastes like burned oil..... they LOAD the MSG even after lying saying they don't. Garbage -avoid at all cost unless you want...

Wife is writing this::: Horrible customer service!! Placed a call in order and there was a miscommunication. Text husband order and he told the lady that it was a pick up order not a call in. Phone is on silent, Lady calls back and I recognized number before I could answer goes to voicemail. Ask husband what happened he said nothing I ordered the food. (Slaps head baby I called it in) she calls back, I answer she said food is ready, I said we are eating to food, I’m sorry there was a miscommunication. She fusses and while she was fusing I’m telling my husband to go back and pick up the second order and I’ll just take it to lunch… THE LADY HUG UP IN FACE!! NOW AS A DOCTOR who was willing to fix the issue for you to slam the phone in my face was unnecessary and unprofessional!!! Naw will not get my business AGAIN!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE customer service!!!...
