Corner Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in Irvine

Overpriced mediocre food, plus worst service ever and/or prejudice against non-White people. Please don't come here. :(

My daughter suggested we come here for Father & Daughter date, because she likes to read books at Barnes & Noble. We arrived around 2 pm, and we stood behind someone's table for 30 minutes. When they left, we took their table.

There were about 10 staffs in the restaurant, but nobody would clear our table. After about 10 minutes, I walked to ask the cashier for help, and 3 staffs were trying to figure out how to change the cash drawer on the cash register.

I waited with a friendly smile. Then, I asked them politely to help me clear the table. Someone said ok, so I went back to wait at our table. Another 10 minutes passed, but nobody came, so I cleared the table myself - moved the dishes to the kitchen and the trash to the trash bin.

Funny thing was while I was wiping the table, 2 white customers thought I worked there and wanted to take our table. More surprisingly was those 2 white customers found another table, and the restaurant staff cleared it immediately.

Finally, about 45 minutes later, I bought a bowl of Mac & Cheese for my daughter, but I have lost my appetite. I could have bought this cheaper at Boston Market or CPK, and they would offer much better service.

As I ponder about this bad experience, I remembered our last trip here was just as bad, so I spent time to write this review to warn other families with children to avoid...

Generally I have not problems with Corner Bakery and have tried many different locations. Food is always good and bakery items are awesome. This last experience though has pretty much turned me off to them (at least the location at the Tustin Market Place. I ordered Chicken Carbonara to go. I did not get at all fancy asking for additional things or taking away from things. I simply ordered just that. I get home and 3 bites in, I am noticing something is not right. There is no chicken in the Chicken Carbonara?!?! OK, so I proceed to call them back. I am put on hold immediately. I am on hold for 5 minutes so I decide might as well drive in. They must be busy, right? As I am parking they finally answer the phone. I explain the issue and that I am walking up so we can discuss then. I show them the order and am told - "OK I will replace it.". Now am I offered a refund - no. Am I offered a beverage or perhaps a cookie or something for the trouble - no, Am I offered a reason I was put on hold for like 10 minutes even though there is no line when I walked in - no. Is it expected that I receive these things - Not really and opinions may vary. However, at any point am I at least offered an apology - HELL NO! Just handed a replacement with a "here you go" and do I want some utensils, as though this happens all the time and is acceptable. Well to me this is a reflection on their management and owners. This review is in regards with the “Asian lady who wears a black eyeglasses. I work across this restaurant and most of the time I order food on the app and just do pick it up. One time I went to use the restroom and this lady didn’t even bother to come and talk to me. She just yelled at me saying it’s only for paid customers to use the restroom! I told her I buy food from time to time as I only work across. Then she gave me the Asian look and rolled her eyes and wave her hand saying NO! NO! NO! Only time to time?? You cannot use the restroom! I was so embarrassed as other people were looking at us. So I just said I’ll use as I’m already here. When I came out from the restroom I’m shock that she was still there and gave me a sharp look and rolled her eye. At that moment my mind was debating maybe she owns the store or maybe she’s the manager. Other staff are very friendly whenever I go pickup my order or when I’m ordering in the counter when there’s no line. Anyway, I will never come back to buy food in this place anymore.
