I’ve been here multiple times, and won’t ever be returning. My friends and I were looking forward to dining here—we made a reservation, dressed up, and planned our whole evening around this dinner. Unfortunately, what should’ve been a fun night turned into an exhausting and frustrating experience.
When we arrived for our 7:30 reservation, we were told they didn’t have it on file, and we ended up waiting over 30 minutes to be seated. When we were finally sat, it was outside—and we were never asked if we had a preference for indoor or outdoor seating. The table they gave us had no chair backs, just uncomfortable benches, and it was still hot out. No one came to greet us, take our drink order, or even offer water for over 10 minutes.
We flagged down a waiter (not even sure if he was ours) and asked if we could move to a different table nearby. He said yes and told the hostess. So we picked up our things and moved, got settled at the new table, and waited again—but still, no one came to serve us. After sitting there for a few minutes, that same waiter came back and told us we actually couldn’t sit there after all, and we’d have to move again. We were told to wait for another table where guests were just finishing up. Once they left and the table was cleaned, we had to get up—for the third time—and move again. All of this while we were in heels and dresses, in the heat, with people watching. It was awkward, uncomfortable, and frankly ridiculous. And still—no water.
Eventually we ordered drinks and queso, but everything took forever to come out. By this point, another table near us had been seated, served drinks, and had their food order taken before ours, even though we had already been waiting over 30 minutes. At some point during this wait, a manager happened to walk by and casually asked how everything was going. We told her the truth: we had been waiting for a long time, had already moved tables multiple times, and that another party had been helped before us. She apologized and said she’d send out dessert. While we appreciated the gesture, we weren’t there for dessert—we just wanted respectful, timely service. In addition, we made it very clear that one of our friends was gluten free, so she wouldn’t have been able to eat this unwanted dessert. Nonetheless, they didn’t take that into consideration.
When our food finally arrived, one of the orders—my friend’s—was wrong. She had asked for carne asada quesadillas, and they brought her carne asada fajitas instead. The waiter never repeated the order back, which might’ve helped avoid the mistake.
We tried to wave down the manager again. I waved once—she saw me, then looked away and made a point to avoid eye contact. She walked around the patio, checking on other tables, deliberately ignoring us. It wasn’t until she physically walked past our table and I waved again, directly at her face, that she finally stopped. We explained the issue with the wrong order and asked if they could rush the correct one and comp it for the inconvenience. And instead of apologizing or offering a solution, she laughed at us. Literally laughed.
At that point, my friend just agreed to keep the incorrect dish since they said they’d comp it. It was humiliating and not worth the fight anymore. The rest of the night, the service was distant and uncomfortable—the manager barely looked our way again, and our server didn’t check in.
We were there for over two hours—outside, in the heat, shuffled from table to table, forgotten by the staff, disrespected by management, and ultimately laughed at when we asked for fairness. We came excited and hopeful, and we gave them several chances to make it right. But the way we were treated made it very clear: our business wasn’t valued.
We were late to our next event due to this inconvenience.

Read moreFantastic experience altogether at Mexican Sugar. We started with drinks and chips & salsa at the bar. The chips are fresh and the salsa is the warmed variety, mild spiciness, with a nice chipotle touch. Classic margarita is refreshing and served on 12 oz glasses.
We had the guacamole as an appetizer. It’s not huge by any means but it was honestly one of the freshest and tastiest guacamoles I’ve had.
For the main courses, our table had the pescado (fish) tacos, the adobo grilled carne asada fajitas, and the Angie’s skirt steak. The star entree is the angus skirt steak. It has a wonderfully delicious adobo marinade that just sticks to the meat, it was so perfectly balanced sweet and savory that I honestly could have had a second order of it and not been tired of eating it. The fajitas were nice although not as good as the skirt steak, and the tacos were exactly what you would expect of fish tacos.
To top off our meal we shared the tres leches. Thank goodness we did, because it was a HUGE piece of cake. Interestingly, it included coconut and raisins in the cake, complemented by a rich tres leches sauce. If you don’t mind coconut, get this for your dessert, but you’ll probably want to share it with at least one other person.
The atmosphere at Mexican Sugar is hip and lively. It’s almost elegant although casual dress is the norm. They have both inside and outside seating, with almost all of the “outside” seating under a covered area with open sides. Outside was very comfortable and just a little less noisy than inside.
I highly recommend Mexican Sugar if you’re craving some nice mexican at a reasonable price. Hit them up if you’re in...
Read moreYou are greeted by a fancy exterior design that reminds you of old mexico with a contemporary, artsy feel to it. An expensive, open plan, modern design that screams luxury awaits once you walk in. The light fixtures, bar design and interior decor were well thought out.It gives you a comfy feeling as you are surrounded by diners. There is a lot of space between tables which is a plus There is an outside seating area for those sunny days and warm evenings where you can just chill and relax.
The brunch menu is eclectic plus the whole menu has delectable options for every taste. This is a first class restaurant(my opinion) without the fluff and fanfare. It is seriously unique and chic.
Service is fast , friendly with a very knowledgeable and attentive wait staff.
There was not thought spared on the interior decor of this restaurant.
A must visit for first dates, romantic outings or just happy hour hang outs.
I ordered the Hamburger and Egg off the brunch menu and it came out perfect. For my drink, I ordered the Bloody Mary with Tequila. Something unique to note is that my plate was made out of cast iron.
Just at the end of our meal, a medium sized roach crawled between tables which ruined an otherwise great meal. It's time for pest control because it can be worse if a roach crawls on the table itself
The manager comped the main meal which was fine but I was not looking for free food, just a good time . I appreciate the comp!
Hopefully, the restaurant will work on this pest issue and fix it!!
This is still a highly...
