My experience with the service was so bad I will never come back to another Outback. It’s Saturday 1 pm. Seems like only one server is on, which is weird for a Saturday but whatever. I get seated instantly and was ready to order. Appetizer came out a few minutes after my steak, but whatever it happens.
But this tells me there’s no real wait and the kitchen is zooming. I’m moderately done with my meal so I wanted to order dessert, their chocolate thunder. So waiter comes by and I ask for that, a box, and a drink to go. And this man is so in the weeds/overwhelmed by his tables 20 minutes No communication or even a “are you ok?” A food runner saw me sitting there with table pre-bussed and food half eaten shoved aside, and she had to ask if I needed anything. He now comes and ask if I neeed anything 2 more times but I just repeat the same thing. Please just write it down or something.
The busser then got me my drink, and box and had to grab the waiter to get my check. They said “oh the chocolate thunder”. Okay whatever so at this point it’s togo and I cashed out. Another 20 minutes passed, and nothing. They keep asking if I need anything else, but no just the dessert I already paid for. And I just never got it. So whatever I wasted about 50 minutes of my life so I just want to talk to the manager at this point.
I didn’t make a scene, I asked to speak to her at an empty part of the restaurant to say I never got my dessert, and I waited for over 40 minutes for nothing and I just have to go at this point. And it became gaslight session where she said “Sorry, but you should’ve told me” why do I need to tell you when two different people said they got it? How is it my fault that I expected people in food service to remember something they asked about 5 minutes ago? Not even a, well refund it or sorry that you never got it.
Why am I spending $70 for a...

Read moreLong story short, we ended up here at 8:22pm on Christmas Eve and the restaurant closed at 9pm. We were treated like human scum, took the hint and left before the waters came.
We probably wouldn't have chanced that close to closing but we called ahead and the answering service said that the restaurant was closed Christmas and nothing else so we assumed normal hours closing at 10pm.
When we got there (two adults and three kids), we asked if it was too late to be seated and we were told that it wasn't. The restaurant appeared about 30% full. The non-verbals of grim faces and disdainful tone convinced us to get out while we still could within about two minutes.
I get it, people hate working on Christmas Eve, but we were very aware of the time and communicated that to the staff. We would have been in and out by closing time if the kitchen was prompt. I get that there are unspoken rules about coming into a restaurant five minutes before closing that everyone is supposed to just know, but this was 38 minutes and we're not familiar enough with the industry or the speed of the kitchen to know whether that's too tight. Being given "drop dead" looks by everyone we see isn't a very enjoyable way to receive the message.
I guess the bottom line is my message to the manager: If you can't incentivize your staff to at least treat people in a civil manner on Christmas Eve, close extremely early or don't open at all (since even with an early closing your staff will treat people like dirt for...
