FINALLY tried Rico's this afternoon after wanting to visit since when it was Pappy's. Being from the deep south, I miss the fried catfish places and especially the all you can eat buffets featuring it. Although Rico's is not one of those places it does have hand breaded (with cornmeal) perfectly cooked catfish. I also got fried oysters and they were delicious (and hand breaded) also. It came with hush puppies (homemade) and one side which I gave to my husband (jalapeno pinto beans). The restaurant is spotless and the air is ice cold which was appreciated on this 100 degree day. There was a tv running re-runs of The Lone Ranger which we loved. They don't have a liquor license so no cold beer to go with the fried fish fyi. Now for the "could improve" part: Our fried mushrooms were served with ranch dressing and not horseradish sauce and they were not hand made. For almost $8 I won't be ordering those again as they have fried green tomatoes on the menu. Our very young female server did not speak any English but thank God my husband is hispanic. She was not attentive and did not check on us at all but Albert (the owner) did. She was so busy eating and looking at her phone that she did not notice we wanted our check. Perhaps it was her first service industry job? As a seasoned hospitality industry person (25+ years) she needs training and someone to set an example for her. Hands down Rico's is better than Catfish House and I wish they were in South Irving instead of the Kickin Crab which has yet to open. Please go support this local small family owned business as the...
Read moreI thought i would go to an avervage dinner night WRONG,... i walked into a smell of delicious food, clean tables all around, smiles and a friendly staff... the menu had something for everyone and a price point unheard of for the qualitly of the food i received. Everything was made fresh in front of me. Tender seafood, i had a thick tastey homeade salsa, the best perfectly cooked fried seafood not oily at all perfect batter combo. Street tacos were like being back in cozumel, and spicy pinto beans to die for. They even customized food for a preference not listed on the menu. Please do yourself a favor and dont waste your time or money on another bad service or mediocre food at applebees or chilis on beltline.... Read moreTonight my ‘Baby’ (Thomas) and I went to Rico’s.
I have not been to Rico’s Seafood and Tex-Mex since he took over after Pappy’s. We’ve purchased meals from there though.
Pleasant atmosphere, and the smell of great food lingered in the air and was so inviting.
There was one other customer seated when we arrived.
Hubby ordered the 3 piece catfish, with hush puppies and jalapeño beans.
I ordered the ribeye-medium with fries and coleslaw. Plus, a bottle of Mexican Coke.
Usually when I go to restaurants and order a steak I ask for only garlic butter on my steak. Tonight, being it was the first time I would have Rico’s ribeye I did not ask to have just garlic butter, because I was curious how it would be seasoned.
I am so glad I made that decision. I have no idea what was put on the steak but it was...
