La Esquina De Pepe 2 — Restaurant in Irving

Not TEX-MEX but authentic Mexican food prepared as it is traditionally done. Not since I left El Paso and Ciudad Juarez have I had the pleasure of having a "real" bowl of Menudo until today at La Esquina De Pepe 2. Today was our first but not last time to go. I will taste the entire menu in the coming months.

The atmosphere is that of being at someone's house in Mexico with all the casual conversation and Mariachi music in the background. Everything is cooked to order and you can eat there or take it to go. The portions are generous and the accompanying sides are perfect.

Worst breakfast we've ever had! All of our eggs were way overcooked! All 3 of our plates had overcooked over easy eggs and scrambled eggs. The coffee was terrible and wasn't ready until we were done with our meals. And then to top it off it wasn't even worth the wait. It didn't even taste like coffee. My husband swears it was tea. I've never seen coffee the color that it was. The only reason I'm giving more than 1 star is the waitress was super nice, rice & beans were good & homemade corn tortillas were good. I am so mad I spent almost $50 for that...

I was hoping to get some great menudo from this place, but was sadly disappointed. I didn't like anything about it. The menudo tasted so strong like the meat, it was greasy and over cooked. So it was a mushy bite of menudo and it didn't have flavor besides the meat taste. I was hoping the onion, lime and cilantro would make it better but they were dried out so it didn't help. Overall I'm never having theirs again. If you go I would suggest to try something else from their menu. The people there were nice and attentive. It's just their food...
