I have visited El Comal since I moved to Irving back in 2000. It is a great place to do lunch, have a beer and hang out. It is quite during the day and that is just my style. The weekend nights are super busy and lots of live music, mariachis and a club atmosphere. Great too if you are into that. I had a bad experience not too long ago where I took my elderly, disabled mother to dinner with a family friend who was in from El Paso. I wanted him to have authentic Mexican food and thought El Comal would impress him. I was wrong. Unfortunately, I forgot my mother's wheelchair and she has a very hard time getting around. It took about 5-7 minutes for her to get from the parking lot into the restaurant and then she had to go to the bathroom. It was early Friday evening so there was a lot of traffic going in and out of the restaurant in preparation for the rest of the night. The closest seat to the door was a giant booth that said "reserved" on it. An older spanish speaking waitress greeted us and after telling her I was going to take my mother to the bathroom, she said to come back to the booth and have a seat there. Well, going to the bathroom was a twenty minute ordeal and when we finally made it back, my mother was exhausted from walking by this point, a young English speaking waitress met us at the booth and said we would have to change seats because that booth was reserved for large parties. I told her the previous waitress had told us we could sit there and besides, my mother was tired and the closest open seat was across the restaurant and that was too much for her to bare. After arguing with her for a couple of minutes, she offered no apologies. I decided to bluff her and told her that I was told we could sit there and if not, we would just go ahead and leave. She said that was fine. She called my bluff and I ended up having to leave before our family friend could even meet us there. I was hurt and disappointed. I called the manager, Fernando, about a week later after my emotions subsided. He listened to my story in its totality, apologized sincerely and asked for the opportunity to make it right. I told him my mother and I would come back and ask for him. When we went back, he greeted us warmly and sat and chatted with us. Before he left, he informed us that our meal and drinks would be complimentary and that we would always be welcomed at El Comal. I did suffer a bad experience there but Fernando redeemed El Comal. I have been going there since 2000 and will keep frequenting this place for its inexpensive beer, good authentic Mexican food and its quiet atmosphere during the week. Its a preferred hang out for my mother and I and we highly...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place, my husband doesn’t like it at all. we only go when our regular place for breakfast is closed. I my self love the food that’s the plus! The con is service is not so good, waitresses are not so friendly, they basically take your order and disappear, you have to look for them to get a refill on drinks, which doesn’t get to you untill the food arrives.. 2nd the menu has some “daily”prices for certain dishes, but they are not valid until 11am. So why put it on the menu. 🙃 if It says “Friday’s daily deal” then it should be all day, no matter if it’s 10 AM or 5 PM. not a big deal but it’s worth mentioning. and last, they did not bring us chips an salsa, so we asked for some. The waitress says to us, “there is none made!! Nothing else and walked away. 🤨 It’s a Mexican restaurant!!! Every authentic Mexican restaurant puts that out as soon as you sit or when they serve your drinks.. unbelievable… this is we’re she should’ve gone to the kitchen and said we need nachos!! WTH! So needless to say we won’t be returning if I want their food I’ll order it...

Today is the first time I have ever ordered food from this establishment, it will NOT be the last. I was looking for Flautas in our area, our usual go to place no longer serves Flautas.
I went to Google map and searched Flautas near me. There were other restaurants that were suggested to have them but, looking at all their menus I did not find Flautas. Mi Comal had them on their menu. Yay!
I asked my husband to order the Flautas with Guacamole for me. Plus, requested NO hot spice, or jalapeños.
Oh my goodness, they did as they were asked. I truly can not tell you how many times I have asked other restaurants for a meal prepared a certain way and invariably my food is never the way I ask.
I am so excited and looking forward to more experiences with Mi Comal.
Their Flautas came with 6, by the time I snapped the photo I had already ate 1.
Thank you Mi Comal. Y’all are awesome and made...
