Rudy’s, a Tex-Mex treasure in Irving is like stepping into a time machine back to the 80s when I was a kid scarfing down their magical food. Let’s be real—the building is OLD, like “might’ve been built by pioneers” old, and the shopping center looks like it’s auditioning for a post-apocalyptic movie. Peeling paint, worn-down vibes—don’t give it a second thought. Close your eyes, walk past the dated exterior, and let the food and family love take over. The moment you step inside, the owner and matriarch of this family-run gem greets you as hostess and cashier, and it’s like walking into your grandma’s house. Her warm, welcoming vibe makes you feel like she’s personally inviting you to her dining room table. You’re not a customer—you’re family. The love in the air is as thick as their cheese sauce (more on that in a sec). Now, the FOOD. Oh, lordy, the food! The chips and salsa are a revelation—chips so light and crispy they practically float, paired with salsa that’s hot, HOT, HOT but so flavorful you’ll be addicted, spooning it up like it’s your job. It’s clearly fresh-made in the kitchen, and the spice hits just right. The corn tortillas? A surprise star—order them, trust me, they’re soft, warm, and perfect. The enchiladas are straight-up heavenly, whether you go cheese, beef, or chicken—you can’t pick a bad one. That cheese sauce? It’s so amazing it deserves its own fan club. Creamy, dreamy, and probably made with a sprinkle of Tex-Mex magic. Don’t sleep on the guacamole tostada—fresh, vibrant guac on a crispy base that’s a party in every bite. The tamales, made fresh in-house, are tender and packed with flavor. The crunchy beef taco? Classic, satisfying, and everything you want from old-school Tex-Mex. Every dish screams tradition and care, like it’s been perfected over decades. Rudy’s is a family-owned love letter to Tex-Mex, and despite the tired building, the food and warmth make it a five-star legend. Ignore the outdated vibes, grab a seat, and let the chips, salsa, enchiladas, and that incredible family feel fill your soul. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit to this Tex-Mex time capsule!...
Read moreThe beef chili Reno has previously been excellent at Rudy’s. Today, the chili was much smaller. I ate about 25% of the Reno and couldn’t find any beef. The entire dish tasted completely unseasoned. I complained early, as I couldn’t find any beef and it tasted bland. The waiter walked away and did not return until the meal was nearly over. I ate the meal by dousing it in salsa, which usually isn’t necessary. I told the waiter the food was bland. He stood at the table and argued with me until I told him to get a manager. He said he was the only one here. His argument was the same cook cooked it, so it must be excellent as usual. But it wasn’t, and he wouldn’t listen. I cook, too. Human error is possible. He offered me a meal at the end of the meal, something different. I asked him why he didn’t take care of the problem when I brought it up initially. He offered no response. I don’t want something different. I just wanted a seasoned pepper with beef throughout, as usual, but he didn’t offer that. Why are they leaving this arguementative guy in charge of a restaurant? Should I make an issue about paying...
Read moreThe food is basic yet savory. It's not authentic, a little white washed actually. However the service was the best that I have ever gotten and I eat out 9/10. Refills on your drinks take less than 10 seconds. If you ask for something such as a side of lettuce and tomato it also takes less then 10 seconds. There were two guys helping us through our whole experience and I have got to say, team work is a huge thing here! To the point where I don't even know if they were BOTH our server! The place is also B.Y.O.B but they do not serve alcohol themselves. I will come back not for just the food, but MAINLY the service. I really felt like the guys were like family. They kept us laughing the entire time and made sure we were taken care of and not disappointed. I am beyond amazed at this place. If I could give 10 stars I would. Whoever hired these guys AND the hostess, GREAT JOB. We felt welcomed and LOVED from the moment we stepped...
