The Mar Bar — Restaurant in Islamorada

Great little gem tucked away behind a fresh fish market. It’s a very small outdoor covered bar with beachy tiki vibes, located on a channel, Oceanside. Boats come up to grab a bite or you can drive in. They have 5 things on the menu. That’s it (plus beverage); But they do it right! We gorged on fresh off the boat cracked stone crab claws and exceptional oysters on the half shell. The conch salad was divine! Brandon served us and was very good at his job (thanks again Brandon). Only giving 4 stars because we went back 2 days later and the oysters were pretty iffy as well as the cocktail sauce. Both were rancid I think. My tummy thought so too. It was a rough night. My hubby ordered his favorite brew, Yeungling both times. Second visit, it was skunked. Just strange. Anyway, the crab claws (both visits) were phenomenal and cheap! Service both times was exceptional! We felt bad though because our second visit on Tuesday evening was a full house, and only one server to keep up with every table. Amazing bar right on a canal in Tavernier with great views to take in the sunset. Meghan the bartender, as mentioned in other reviews, was incredibly hospitable. Cheap oysters and stone crab claws as well as a couple of good beers on tap with a small but well curated wine list. Those looking for food other than oysters/stone crab can order from the restaurant directly adjacent and have it delivered to you at the bar (their food is also fresh, and very bomb). What a gem. Little off the beaten path restaurant. Super friendly owners. Lola was great! Boat right up. They are attached to a seafood distributor and market so it’s a fresh as it gets! Great music. Fun vibes. Beer, wine and seltzers. Homemade fish dip is different than the rest. OYSTERS! Raw only. It’s next to a cool paddle board/dive shop type place that shouldn’t be missed either.
