Johnny T's Bistro & Bar never disappoints!!! Started off with my favorite fried green tomatoes in all of Mississippiland, it's topped with sauteed spinach, fresh crab meat, and a cream sauce. This is a must get appetizer when I come here. My friends ordered fried broccoli. Honestly... I don't like little trees. There's only been one place that I've enjoyed little trees from and it was Fauna Foodworks. These came out crispy, perfectly fried, and seasoned perfectly!! I was like wow, I'd eat these little trees 😆
Ever since I've had Johnny's cheese grits at Stewpot's Taste of Mississippi, its been my favorite grit dish around. Got the shrimp and grits, added fried catfish. Cheesy grits, topped with crawfish cream sauce, spicy sausage, and succulent jumbo shrimp, I mean, it can't get better than this to me. It's rich, so I had a hard time finishing the dish, but as soon as I closed that carryout box, I was ready to finish my leftovers.
Also got to taste the salmon topped with a lemon dill sauce and green beans, if you like a little tangy flavor, this is the dish for you. I really liked it! Because I love lemon, and dill together, so it was delish. Service was amazing! The place was packed, but our server was attentive, constantly checked up on us, Chef Brian came out to say hi...
Read moreThere are two areas to this restaurant-we ate in the bar area and did not go upstairs. Therefore, I have no idea what the upstairs looks like or if the menu is the same. We got there at about 5:15 on a Friday night and had no trouble getting a table. There were two people behind the bar and one of them came to our table within 5 minutes with drink and food menus. He was back within a few minutes to take our drink order as well as our food order. The food probably took about 20 minutes but it may have been longer as I was really enjoying my amaretto sour 😉. I had the catfish and grits - a fried catfish filet over cheddar grits with a crawfish sauce. I’ve had shrimp and grits before and it’s one of my favorites, so this combination intrigued me. To say the least, I was not disappointed. Excellent dish!! My husband ordered the crab cakes - no filler lump crab cake with lemon butter sauce, served over petite mix green salad. I would have to say that this is the best crab cakes I’ve ever had. When they say no filler, that’s exactly what they mean. Delicious!! We had fudge cake for dessert and it was a three layer dark chocolate cake with a thick fudge icing. We ordered small plates and it was still generous portions. If you’re in Jackson, MS, just go:...
Read moreCame here the other night with a few friends who have never been. Generally, they loved the food we ordered so I’ll start with that.
For apps, we had the seafood rolls, devil eggs, fried green tomatoes, and salmon rolls. All were very good and well enjoyed.
For entrees: there was a lot of food - so much so that everyone had left overs so the portion sizes are great. I had the steak and mashed potato’s (literally so good and tender). Friends has the Cajun alfredo pasta, Atlantic shareable seafood platter, and chicken over rice with a cream sauce. I’ve never had fried crab claws but that was def the highlight. All the food was 10/10.
Drink: Etta James, Ike Turner, and the Rick James — beware the RJ will have you leaning.
Service: it was a Thursday night so it was pretty busy towards the end. Our waiter was pretty straightforward but didn’t have any recommendations so that wasn’t helpful for the new people. I suggest ordering everything at once and asking for the check when the food comes out because you’ll never know when the waiter is going to come back to you.
Lastly, they have only plastic utensils that you usually see in to go containers. I don’t really get why but I’d suggest you bring your own if eating with plastic is...
