I visited Hen and Egg and ordered the Nester Crispy Eggs and Chicken — absolutely delicious! The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and not dry at all. The fried hard-boiled egg was such a unique touch. I loved how the sunflower seeds, jalapeños, beets, and rémoulade all complemented each other. Easy 10/10!
I also tried the Spicy Honey Chicken Biscuit. While it wasn’t as spicy as I was expecting, the biscuit itself was amazing — soft, buttery, and fresh. It came with early potatoes, which were good but could’ve used just a pinch more salt.
My friend had the breakfast plate with turkey sausage, grits, eggs, a biscuit, and early potatoes. The grits and turkey sausage also needed a little extra salt, but I actually appreciate that they keep the sodium lower so you can season to your taste.
Service was a solid 10/10 — friendly, attentive, and quick. The food overall was great, the flavors were fresh, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I will...

If you don't know about Hen & Egg, it's Nick Wallace's new restaurant in the Sun & Sand Motor Lodge in Downtown Jackson.
It was BUSY! They have multiple spaces and tables, but my favorite was the bar overlooking the kitchen. For me, an open kitchen makes me happy. I can tell everything is clean and I can see fresh ingredients being prepared.
The burger is the best burger in Mississippi. I don't say that lightly. It's a thick burger - I'd guess a little over a half pound. The sauces were obviously handmade. The bun was high quality and toasted.
But the meat is where it's at. Cooked perfectly. Super flavorful. Juicy enough to need a napkin...and served with fresh fries tossed in Nick's 26.
I look forward to going back and getting fried chicken or a plate lunch again soon!
Shout out to Nick and his crew for a friendly, quick, and...
Read moreHen & Egg is pure Black excellence on a plate! From start to finish, this meal was a 10/10. The fried fish was golden, crispy, and seasoned just right — tender on the inside with that perfect crunch. The cabbage tasted like Sunday dinner at Grandma’s house, the mashed potatoes were creamy with the right texture, and the cornbread muffin was soft and delicious.
Now let’s talk about the hot sauce — so smooth, tangy, and flavorful that you could literally drink it. Yes, it’s that good!
And dessert? The pecan bread pudding deserves its own standing ovation. Sweet, nutty, gooey, and rich — absolutely divine.
Hen & Egg doesn’t just serve food; they serve comfort, culture, and flavor in every bite. I’ll definitely be back! Ask for MeMe, she will take care of you!
