I was excited to try this place and the parking lot was packed so I had high Hope's. I was soon disappointed. We ordered an appetizer of fried rice which had a strong black pepper flavor which I thought was odd but it wasn't bad fried rice it just wasn't my favorite.
Then came the sushi rolls. My husband's roll had an even stronger black pepper flavor. I have no idea where the flavor came from as we couldn't see pepper in the rice or on the fish. We were at a loss but we could both definitely taste it.
My roll was pretty good flavor wise except the chili sauce was more hot than sweet but it was made terribly! I don't know if they just weren't trained or what but the filling was missing in some bites, the rice wasn't consistent throughout the roll and the fish on top was butchered and sliced way too thick.
To top off our visit there was a fish scale somewhere in my roll. I waited until after we had paid to point it out so the staff wouldn't think we were just after a free meal. No worries of that, the staff wasn't even interested. I was assured it was because they get their fish whole and they have to cut those off and sometimes they don't get cleaned off good. Ummm yeah, I know why it happens. I got a half hearted "Sorry about that" as the waitress walked off.
I won't be going back. There are other sushi restaurants in Jackson with superior food and customer service.
EDIT Since Google doesn't allow you to reply to an owner's response, I am editing here for my response:
We were there tonight 6/30/19 at 6:30 pm. Honestly I'm a little concerned that you don't recognize your own sushi from the pictures I provided and I find it insulting that you want to clarify if I knew the restaurant where I had dinner.
But since you seem to be in doubt it was the Pearl Jam roll where the picture of the lopsided half empty pieces and fish scale were oddly not included in the review with the rest of the photos and the KISS roll. Also there was a side of fried rice, a glass of sweet tea, and a glass of water.
There were guitars hanging on the walls, motifs of mostly 70s-90s rocks stars and bands along the walls and a barn door size poster of Creed covering a sliding door to the rear of the restaurant. Also our table, first to the right against the wall when you walk in, was broken and wobbled every time you leaned against it. I hope those are enough details to confirm I know...
Read moreWhen pulling up, I could tell it was a smaller restaurant, ok no problem with that. They weren’t busy anyways, so it should be quick, right? Wrong, dead wrong! We walked in, weren’t greeted, so we just stood there a bit confused. Finally, after what felt like an unfathomable amount of time, what appeared to be all the employees poured out of the room with the sliding door. Not one employee smiled or acted like they wanted us there. Our waitress Casey, walked up to us and said “sit where you want” in a monotone voice. She followed us to a table near the other side of the restaurant, dragging her feet the entire way, got our drink order and disappeared. After like 5 or so minutes, she appeared, talking to another coworker the whole way, taking her time. She gave us our drinks spilling the overflow on our table. She then asked if we were ready to order, not even explaining the menu to us so we had to ask many questions. I could see the irritation in her face, I know she felt bothered by our questions. We finally ordered, I got the Bob Marley and Tommy Lee rolls, my husband got the steak hibachi. The hibachi came to the table and 15 minutes we finally got the rolls. The hibachi was so salty you could barely eat it. The sushi rolls were a joke, so small it wouldn’t have fed a child. Both hibachi and rolls rice was under cooked and crunchy. We told our waitress our issues with the food, she said “I’ll speak to a manager about it and see what I can do”. She then went behind the bar and spoke to a blonde female that I believe was the manager( I find that surprising because this woman sang the entire time we were in the restaurant). They both looked our direction and were talking and obviously laughing at our issues. The said manager Marybeth, came asked our problem, never apologized in a believable manner but offered 20% off. Wow, that’s all we get? We couldn’t even finish our food, not to mention we were being mocked and stared at rudely by all employees. This place is an embarrassment to the Jackson area. I will never be going back, clearly they employed people who do not take pride in their customers or what the do. Shame on all of you for acting as immature and negative as you did. Wish I could give...
Read moreI was surprised with the down home smaller establishment of other Rock N Roll venues found in much larger cities.
We went on a double date with some good friends. It was most definitely a great, 'bodacious' experience.
We were seated by a polite hostess who distributed menus and took our drink order to kick off the experience. As we sat, I was impressed that the music was not over powering but added to the atmosphere and the enjoyment of the dining experience. The decorations helped remind me of the recent history of the musical genre.
Two young waitresses attended to our food order after the drinks were delivered. They were patient with us...me...as I did not know what to try--all of the descriptions were impressive.
We received our appetizers and enjoyed some unique tastes food set before us. The food was very delightful bringing bold flavors to my taste buds.
As our conversation continued among us we did not have to speak in raised voices competing over the music to carry a casual conversation among friends. The monitors were showing video tracks of the "classics" of the Rock and Rock genre and ageless shows of the genre.
We received our entrees and we began to identify the foods which were before us. The food was masterfully prepared, served directly from the kitchen and the taste was not overpowering or so bold to offend. The four of us had already agreed that we would share the entrees among ourselves. We enjoyed the variety of flavors presented in the entrees.
My take away from our experience is that the food specialty is garnished by the days of hair bands and the harder side of Rock and Roll. The atmosphere is very enticing and not over powering the opportunity to enjoy on a date or with friends. The staff are polite and courteous to each guest as they enter the establishment. The tables are cleaned without interrupting the guests or conversation. When the table is emptied, they are cleaned with a bleach and water solution that actually smells like it has been sanitized. This is a place that I could bring friends and family to enjoy good sushi, and othet entrees. We will definitely return to this...
