I was excited to eat at this place.... And was disappointed. Let's start off with the decor. They have done a great job decorating and designing the inside. It has a cool vibe inside from the exposed brick to the baby grand piano, and the rest of the decorations. The wait was 45 minutes so when two seats came open at the bar, we grabbed them. My eyes quickly saw that they had a Nutella Latte on their menu, so that is what I ordered first. It was delicious. I could have drank 2 more. I also learned from the bartender that they also make all of their syrups for their bar. That is pretty amazing. The bartender was awesome. She managed the full bar and all of the drinks coming in with no problem.
Sitting at the end if the bar (where servers pick up their drinks) was maybe not the best idea. The place was so packed and busy, it affected the staff. Sitting there enjoying conversation with my husband and one of the waitresses spilled a drink down my back and in my hair. Not exactly the best thing that can happen. She apologized and even said "it's only champagne so it won't stain", but then continued to move in to serve the rest of the drinks in her hand, as my husband tried to help me wipe off the champagne and OJ from my back and out if my hair. There was a gentleman that cake over and told the bartender to get me anothet latte. I have no idea who he was because he never stopped to introduce himself, just apologized over my shoulder. We cancelled the additional Nutella Latte because I needed room for my food. The gesture was sweet, it just could have been handled with a little more professionalism.
Being a true foodie, you can't let the little things get in the way of devouring great food. Brunch is my favorite, so despite being wet, cold and sticky.... It's ALL about the food.... In it to review it remember? Well that's my motto...
When the food came out, I was so excited. I created my own sandwich on Texas toast with the Mexicala ingredients (cheese, chorizo, avacodo, peppers & egg) with home fries. I started diving into the home fries and immediately noticed that they lacked some sort of seasoning & they were cold. Ok, biggie ass salt and ketchup... Nope still not BETTER. Not the worst thing in the world. They are busy and I can overlook cold potatos. Everyone loves Texas toast and the combo of the ingredients, how could it go wrong? This sandwich was going to make my champagne shower worth it. Well, I took one bite into it and the sandwich was cold too. Nothing like biting into a cold over easy egg. On top of that the Texas toast was super dry... Definitely needed some butter or something. The rest of the sandwich was also kind if bland, even the chorizo sausage didn't add enough of a kick in flavor to really change the opinion of the sandwich. I ended up not really touching the meal. The bar tender did notice and take it off the bill (which I always try to insist that it's not necessary). My husband who would NOT describe himself as a foodie, because he will literally eat anything, said is food was bland.
What am I missing? Perhaps it was an off day? Not sure, just know that this place isn't worth the wait because the food should speak for itself & it really...
Read moreThe Jacksonville Beach Brunch Haus is located near the beach and a very popular restaurant.
This is not a chain. Breakfast is obviously a popular meal here. When we arrived, there were people at a couple of tables. Within 30 minutes, the restaurant was much busier.
Our server, Mandy, was very good. She explained the menu. Some of it is confusing. She had obviously encountered questions before and provided an explanation of how the menu was structured so it was easier to understand.
I ordered the French Texas Toast. It apparently comes fried but asked for it to be grilled and that request was honored. The meal is huge--three large pieces of French Texas toast and they come covered with sugar. I did not care for the sugar but scraped it off easily. Those who do not want powdered sugar can undoubtedly have it that way if requested.
The toast had a good flavor. It was not completely cooked inside. I ate one piece of the toast as that was filling by itself and the lack of being fully cooked was not very compelling for eating any more. I do not know if one can order a smaller serving.
A dining companion ordered eggs and potatoes. The egg was thoroughly cooked and looked like it was cooked fast on a hot grill. It was actually a little tough due to the way it was cooked. The potatoes tasted good but were also overcooked and covered with salt which seemed unnecessary.
Coffee was excellent. The hot tea was also very good. We were not able to get a second cup of coffee or more water for the tea as the restaurant was very busy and servers were somewhat overwhelmed. No doubt, this restaurant is having trouble hiring sufficient staff as most restaurants appear to have a similar problem. The people working here were working hard but one or two more would have made the job easier.
There was a team effort which is a good idea. Unfortunately, while the coffee and tea were delivered by a person who did not take the order, the honey and tea and teaspoon were not delivered. I was able to go to the area and pick up the missing items.
When the meal was delivered there was a similar problem. All of the orders were correct. Some of the accompaniments did not make it to the table but we were able to get them when the server arrived.
Total for a breakfast for 3 was about $48. While the servings were large, the quality of the food was not worth the price; the servers were good but overwhelmed so service was mediocre due to no fault of the people waiting...
Read moreWe went here with high hopes, but were ultimately disappointed and will not be returning. The food quality was the same, if not worse, than food I can easily make at home. Very little seasoning or flavor. Almost felt like a cop-out to just put the word "vegan" on the menu, but not actually put any effort into the food itself. At first, we were both brought dishes that weren't ours at all- french toast with sausages. So they sent the food back. Then about 10 minutes later, we were brought our meals again. My dish was correct, but my boyfriend's dish was very off. Keep in mind, we both ordered FULLY vegan meals off the vegan menu, and expected our food to be vegan as ordered. My boyfriend ordered the Just Egg Split with house fries, and received the just egg as it comes, but then it came with toast and NON vegan butter, and a side of NON vegan cheese grits. We had to wait a few minutes before anyone came back to check on us, and we informed the server that our order was incorrect. She said the cheese grits aren't vegan. I repeated yes, that's why the order is incorrect, because we didn't order cheese grits. She took the plate and came back in a bit with the same Just Egg, dry toast, and the house fries. We were not offered vegan butter, or jam, or anything at all to put on the dry toast. The server did not come back to check on us until it was time to pay the bill. The Just Egg was an extremely small portion- half the cup it came in was a huge avocado, and then it was about 2 tablespoons of Just Egg, and then a measly sprinkling of Daiya cheese that wasn't even melted on or mixed in. No seasoning, no flavor. Even in my meal, the Mexicali wrap, it was very unflavorful. Seemed to be the same as if I opened a pack of tofu and stir fried it with a bell pepper and some bland sausage crumbles. Might as well have made it at home. Not...
