This is going to be a rapid fire review with my instant impressions as I might have been in this location the all of ten minutes. Definitely five stars in terms of the Greek style doughnuts which on this day I had the cinnamon and pistachio. I also added a hazelnut shake. Everything five stars including helpful staff and well organized menus on both table and nearby wall. Best way to describe Greek style doughnuts. I'd say unlike American style that are heavily doughed up. These are more like a softer Italian bread in terms of substance, and then combined with a unique flavor such as cinnamon or pistachio. Enhanced would be the wrong context here. Balanced would be better all in a small almost bite sized doughnut that comes in a neatly organized box. It's almost the same situation with my hazelnut shake. Again, unlike American style with heavier ingredients this smaller shake was lighter in the onset but has a unique flavor to the net effect: balance. Smaller can be better. I'm definitely at five stars for quality of food, staff and the very idea of differentation from thick American style food. I quickly looked around for a Greek flag in commentation of this international based cuisine 🇬🇷 didn't see one. The service was so good I was only there briefly. I'll close this review with also a possible suggestion. This small shop is located almost directly across from the Jacksonville fishing pier along busy First Street North. In addition to traffic and pedestrians I'd suggest coming in from the south near the Jacksonville Pier. If there is any free parking, it will be in this area. If not you'll be on...
Read moreWent to this place tonight on the recommendation of someone. Well, it was horrible from the moment we walked in there. Complete chaos and disorganization. No one knows where the line starts or ends. There is a guy making donuts one order at a time and another guy more concerned about doing thumbs up for pics. The couple in front of us ordered. While waiting I was offered a taste of the tiramisu gelato and was told it was just made. I have never been repulsed by any flavor of gelato until now. It was bad. It was either made with goat’s milk or sour milk. So I opted for the cookies and cream thinking it would be better. While this flavor didn’t taste sour, it didn’t really taste good. It had pretty much no taste. We were the second people to order and it took 30 minutes to get 1 tiny scoop of overpriced and not great gelato and a small box of 10 munchkin sized donut holes. The whole check was about $18. It was very disappointing to wait 30 minutes and see people that came in after us get their order before us and leave. More disappointing were the custard filled treats. It is not really custard in these donuts but rather more of a powdered pudding that hasn’t been mixed right. This is our first night in Jacksonville but I’m sure there are plenty of other better establishments. These guys still have to work out the kinks and actually learn how to make the goods they are selling. Plus it’s always better to actually give good customer service than to waste time posing for Instagram photos. But I guess it’s like most things on Instagram: what you see in the pic is not...
Read moreDonuts were pretty good, fresh and warm with tasty toppings. The overall vibe of the place was okay too.
Service on the other hand was not great. The guy which I assume the owner was okay, seem distracted but was able to get our order right and even gave some recommendations. The problems started when we sat down.
Two drinks were ordered - we only received one and had to ask for the other one We got two baskets of donuts with two flavors each - only received one basket with initial two flavors, we had to ask once again for the second one. Everyone seem very surprised by that and the girl even asked what flavors they are supposed to be When we finally got our second basket, it was with the same exact flavors as the first one even though we told her which ones we already had. When we told her that the order was incorrect she said that we would have to wait for the correct ones. Not because they need to be cooked but because the they are waiting for the dough to rise.
You would think that if you are running a donut shop you would have enough dough on hand to...
