Ruth’s Chris
I don’t usually leave bad reviews. But I’m embarrassed because, when for the first time I’m bringing my wife from another country to really have the first experience of Ruth’s Chris Steak House in USA, it was botched. We are visiting here in Florida. To her the USA bears the STANDARD! but this location was substandard. We also have the same Ruth’s Chris in her country which is really a 5 star! rating. I’m hoping that the management pay attention to this review. I’ve been in Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in many places and other countries. I am fully disappointed here. Food: #1 we ordered two ribeye steaks, medium. They came out medium well and well done. The manager replaced these few minutes later and got it right. For this expensive and steak “master”restaurant, should have made our steak first time Go. Then the taste tasted like frozen steaks! The steak! do not taste normal, it tasted that like an old meat frozen over for more than few weeks. We did not finished the steak. We took the left overs and I examined it and tasted again. I truly believe It was old meat. It wasn’t from a freshly butchered meat. The plates have too much butter. My partner and I agreed that our USDA ribeyes were better, using olive oil and rosemary leaves and salted over with pink salt. Asparagus, was ok but not steamed to perfection. Lobster Bisque was served warm not “hot” Spinach does not taste the way I’m used to, there was too much cream. Food presentations were not of a high Caliber. You should expect an upscale above ! others presentation of Ruth’s Chris as standard. I felt that I was only eating at Waffle House.
Service: I suggest that the Servers and others around us pay attention to their customers. I paid $350+ for this poor service. When I dropped my table napkin, and picked it up nobody paid attention. I know from experiences and of other locations and even Texas de Brazil, Morton’s steakhouse they rushed to my table and replaces it .Someone should have replaced it, if they were attentive. I, then intentionally left it on the floor, but no one noticed at all. I waited to see if someone will. But nobody did at all. When my wife’s utensils were taken by the waitress after our appetizer, it should have been replaced right away. When our glass of water is halfway full, and also empty, it should have refilled right away. There was a bug flying over our heads. The waitress was not there for us to finalize our bill. I had to look for her and walk all the way to the front desk to ask. There are other staff that should have paid attention during her absence. I understand there are other tables for her to serve. But they other staff should inform her if this was a team effort. Atmosphere: This is an upscale expensive! restaurant! Other employees who were sitting do not help our server. They saw me raised my hands for the bill. They continued on with their conversations, and mostly loud, and worst! on their cell phones. If their co-workers are busy, they can also inform her of our situation. Instead I felt that they are only serving their own tables, there is no team efforts here. Other Ruth’s Chris locations and especially Asian countries pays attention to their customers. They use their silent voices to communicate and having the appearance of true servers. Maybe, in our case, it’s only isolated to our corner area. When we were dining, two staffs were hanging out ten feet behind us. One sitting and one standing just having a conversation and overpowering our conversations. Bottomline; give us the atmosphere of an upscale service. We are...
Read moreEXCELLENT Father's Day experience--email advertised a Father's Day special of a 6, 8 or 12 oz filet with two lobster tails for $49 (can't beat that). So, I decided to check it out with three other Fathers while "deployed" to JAX with the Guard. We made a reservation through Open-table--worked very well. The reservation was confirmed by Ruth's Chris two days prior. Upon arrival we appreciated the modern steakhouse motif and ambiance while seated at a table with a spectacular waterfront view! Ruth's Chris appeared very family friendly as I saw many families with young children scattered throughout...
Three (3) waitstaff were assigned to our table (Matt, John, and our waiter Les). Les, clued us into the "Ruth's Classics" which is one heck of a deal--6 oz fillet mignon (which you could upgrade to 11 oz for $10) + blacken shrimp accompanied by your choice of a salad or cup of soup, one side, AND a desert (strawberry shortcake--which you could upgrade to any other menued desert for $4) all for $49.99. We all pretty much ordered from that menu.
I ordered the Caesar salad, 6 oz filet mignon (medium rare) and requested it be bacon-wrapped--the waiter and Chef graciously accommodated my request, accompanied by the garlic mash potatoes, and topped off with the White chocolate bread-pudding.
Two from my party ordered drinks from the bar (one a blueberry mojito and the other a NOLA mule). Both reported that they were perfectly prepared--kudos to the mixologist.
I started with the Caesar salad which was savory, crisp, and generously covered in Parmesan cheese slices. It was fresh and very flavorful with occasional scattered crunchy garlic croutons with a hint of cracked pepper. Not much to complain about--hands down a very well-thought salad with fresh ingredients covered in the perfect amount of salad dressing (not too little and not so much that the lettuce wilted).
The bacon-wrapped fillet was perfectly cooked and arrived, sizzling in a pool of butter, on a 500 degree platter. The aroma filled the entire dining area with the wonderful scent of beef complimented by bacon. It's truly the only way to enjoy a good fillet--bacon just makes everything better!
The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth with just a hint of garlic. Plenty of butter and dusted with parsley.
With virtually no room left following the aforementioned gastronomical feast, we pressed onward with dessert. I selected the the white chocolate bread pudding ($4 upgraded surcharge) covered in Crème anglaise was just absolutely divine. It was warm, soaking up the Crème anglaise like a sponge, while virtually melting inside my mouth---YUMMMMM!
Needles to say, we all staggered out in a stupendous yet nearly stuporous food coma following such a divine feast. We will definitely be back! I forgot to ask whether or not Ruth's Chris offers a military discount, but I did email customer service to ascertain the policy...I'll update the review with that relevant data once I receive it....
Oh, BTW, I did order the sweet potatoe casserole covered with pecans to-go....I'm so looking forward to that savory delight from my prior experience at Ruth's...
Read moreThere may be no better place for that special occasions than Ruth’s Chris, but beware it comes at a price. So if you are celebrating a birthday, getting engaged or simply want to impress a client and a $100 or more a plate dinner is not in your wheelhouse, save up a little and enjoy.
First the ambiance, overlooking the St John’s River and the downtown skyline. Tables are set up on two rows, so anywhere you sit, you will have a good river view. If you want to take pictures, there is an outside deck that is perfect for selfies and group shots.
But the food, what should you order?
Spicy Shrimp Appetizer - normally I avoid appetizers but I have found two good ones, Spicy Shrimp is one. Mushroom Stuffed - the other appetizer I enjoyed, but as I said, I normally skip them. Caesar Salad - this is DELICIOUS, perfectly prepared and large enough to split. Wedge Salad - good, but it is just lettuce, much better options on the menu. Lobster Bisque - AMAZING dish and a good portion. My son loves lobster bisque and he really loves this version. Prix Fixe Menu (PF) - this is always a really good value, you get smaller portions of menu items but it comes with salad/soup, entree and dessert. Mashed Potatoes - great flavor, but the consistency always seem to thin for me. Sweet Potato Casserole - as good as a dessert and the perfect texture. Spinach - this is a Ruth’s staple, so you have to get it at least once on your visit. Brussels Sprouts - we never order enough of these, they are so good. Crimini Mushrooms - my favorite side, but it is a pretty small portion. Steak and Shrimp (PF) - two or three shrimp along with a small beef filet. The Shrimp are jumbos and beautifully butterflied. Crab Cakes - three good size crab cakes, but for some reason I don’t love these. NY Strip - my favorite cut of beef and they do it so well. Tomahawk - sounds good but never ordered it. Filet - as with most RC steaks, you can get different sizes but if you like it well or medium well ask yo get it butterflied. Ribeye - ooh-wee, this steak is SO GOOD. Lamb Chops - options other than steak, never had it. Chocolate Cake - dense, rich, wish there was more raspberry. Cheesecake - great option on prix fixe, really good. Bread Pudding - another dense dessert with a great flavor, speckled with raisins.
Budget ideas - skip alcohol and choose the price fixe menu and sample lobster bisque, steak/shrimp and dessert.
Splurge ideas - order soup/salad and a ribeye, then add a lobster tale or sauce and finish with cheesecake. You will leave satisfied.
The only real issue is price, this place is perfect when someone...
