Sam's Southern Restaurant — Restaurant in Jacksonville

I've driven past this restaurant multiple times but finally decided to give it a shot based on a friend's recommendation. Let's start with the fried green tomatoes - they provide a generous portion for the price, but I prefer mine crispier with ranch and honey mustard (they only had ranch). Our cashier, a polite and professional woman with locs, suggested trying the Sam's sauce, which was good but not my personal preference. I'm accustomed to the fried green tomatoes at Maple Street Biscuit Company, so these didn't quite meet my expectations. On the bright side, the fried wings were perfect - just the right amount of seasoning and crispiness, making me a fan. The fries could have used a bit more salt, but overall, it was a worthwhile experience despite the longer-than-expected wait, especially considering my short lunch break. 03/12/2024 Update I added a star for the consistency of quality in the food prep and specifically for the gizzards, best I have had around Jax. They changed the specials to include 2 sides and a drink, prices are still reasonable.07/2023 update Been eating here off and on about a year, its a top 2 fried chicken joint for me. Food is fresh and hot and place is reasonably clean but can get busy around lunchtime. Smells much better than the grand opening. I waited more than 30 minutes for my order of chicken gizzard. I also ordered a wing dinner which they forgot to make so I only received half of my order. The food tasted pretty good. The Lord is my Shepherd...Oh My Goodness! While on vacation my bf was in charge of the food and he is from Alabama so he is a thicker one who knows good food Lol... shhhh don't tell him!
