Applied for a job last week. Was told they need people and I need a job so when I applied I even dropped off my food handlers card with my resume in hopes they could see I was ready to start work yesterday, it worked. I had ended up meeting the manager Shannon Wednesday Aug 1rst for a interview, seemed we hit it off that she even took a copy of my OLCC card ready to hire me, I was told I’d get a call back Thursday or Friday. I didn’t get a call by Friday afternoon so I called than again on Saturday to both locations couldn’t seem to get ahold of Shannon. I did leave a message with a girl named Sara a couple times to pass on I had called to check in on my application. (Sara seemed nice and helpful) Monday came around I called White city location and was told she would be in today August 8th, so after calling the restaurant 2xs that day with no answer in the am or pm I decided to drive down to see if Shannon was in, she was.

Very nicely she tells me she spoke to “KJ” the owner she stated and said they hired someone out in Jacksonville, that they are so slow that the owner wants to wait to open the patio before hiring anyone.. (this doesn’t seem right) After having my conversation with Shannon I went to my car and called the Jacksonville location and spoke to Sara she told me they were hiring part time in Jacksonville and need people in the White City because they are so under staffed (as that statement was stated in my interview by Shannon) I began to tell Sara her my concern as to why I called her as she couldn’t answer to them I understand but asked her to have the owner reach out as it is super important to get a job and I’d love to work that out, she took my message. (Is this because I am pregnant...)

About our interview.. The interview went good but as I look back it seemed until I mentioned I was in the first trimester of being pregnant and I hoped that wasn’t a issue, I was told by Shannon (she seemed a bit concerned ) they hired a girl who was pregnant and she ended up calling out often because of back pains Ext, I noticed the concern in her voice I I reassured her she has nothing to be concerned about with me. Other than that small conversation about being in my earlier stages of my first pregnancy all went so well.

Here I sit denied a job and for what I was told by Shannon Aug 8th, 2018 because they hired someone and they can’t give me 30 hrs a week, she said “it would be maybe like one day a week”. I can’t help but think it’s because I am pregnant given how this entire thing went down.. 🤷‍♀️

Other than all this the good is good, I wish the next...

EDIT I had to edit my previous review after making the mistake of ordering the Korean spicy ramen. Maybe I've been spoiled by other ramen places in the area (looking at you, Tosu and Hiro Ramen) but for whatever reason I did not ask before ordering if the $14 ramen was made with fresh noodles. So when I was brought a little bubbling cauldron of 25 cent top ramen noodles I was pretty disappointed. But when I took my first bite to find that the noodles weren't even cooked all the way, I was appalled. I sent it back (something I never do) and they put my $14 cauldron of ramen back on the burner, cooking the noodles and rendering all other ingredients in the bowl inedible. I never knew a hard boiled egg could be so tough to eat. All of that aside, the broth lacked any depth of flavor and the entire experience was... just terrible. I do enjoy the sushi here (and to their credit, they are not a ramen restaurant) but if you are thinking about tricking people into paying $14 for top ramen, just take it off the menu (or maybe read the package instructions...

I love Umi Sushi! I ordered a Bento Box with Teriyaki Chicken, and Mixed Tempura (not on menu, slight extra charge). The Chicken was perfectly cooked. It had been brined, so the chicken had good texture and flavor. The Teriyaki sauce was just right. The Tempura was perfectly crispy with great flavor. The verges were fresh and not over or undercooked. The Shrimp Tempura was probably the best I have ever had. The Shrimp was very fresh, and cooked perfectly. Not rubbery. It comes with 2 gyozas, salad, and rice. All good. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll. Great rice, the tuna was the right texture, and just perfect spicyness. Lots of cucumber gave a little crunch. Coated with black Sesame. The server was making sure I was satisfied and was attentive. The cook checked in too. Nice little place in a quaint little town 26.50 was a very...

We tried a couple rolls and ramen before an evening Britt show. The sushi rice in the rolls was not seasoned with enough rice vinegar. It detracted from the flavor and made it feel one-dimensional. The ramen broth was also watered down and lacked complexity. The Japanese ramen came with chicken that was dry and overly-charred on the edges, tainting the broth flavor with bitterness. The Korean ramen was better, but lacked the more aggressive spiciness I’ve had in other Korean ramens. Lastly, I don’t normally knock places for small issues like this, but as soon as we poured the soy sauce in one of our dipping bowls, we saw a dark hair float up to the top of the sauce. In the grand scheme of things, this didn’t help. Unfortunately I won’t be back.

This is our first time at Umi Sushi and we are loving it. We began with a refreshing bowl of cucumber salad for just $5. Then I went with the Korean bulgoggi which was delicious and was served with a side of rice and a salad. My wife went for a spicy baked salmon plus a California roll. Our son had the teriyaki bowl. The location is small and may fill up fast on the weekends. We showed up right as they opened and got a private table in the side room with a view of the main street. My one suggestion for the restaurant, carry Ramuen drinks, especially melon 🍈. Other than that the servers were very attentive and came to our table at least 4 time s during our dinner. Great service and a great location.

Took a very special lady out for dinner to Umi. We arrived pretty early in the evening and its a good thing because there was a 45 minute wait for a table. But that is perfectly understandable given the covid precautions and reduced tables. We had a miso to start our meal and it was hot, tasty and flavorful! Had some tofu and plenty of green onions and seaweed. We chose several rolls and a few octopus nigiri. Everything was really top quality. The flavors of the sushi were bright and fresh. Overall the restaurant was very clean and well organized. Will be back for sure!
