I've been going to The GoodBean in Jacksonville pretty regularly for the past few years, usually at least a couple times each month. The service and quality has always been exceptional and the knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly staff has always set this particular coffee shop apart from the many other options in both Jacksonville and the general area. Recently however it seems that there has been a large layoff or turnover in this particular location's staff, and sadly the result is incredibly poor service and quality of product. In the 3 times I've visited in the last two weeks I've waiting in excess of 20 minutes for my lattes, and this morning my breakfast sandwich took over 35 minutes. Naturally a wait is always expected because of how busy this particular location is, but even given that such long ticket times are pretty unacceptable. The attitude and service of the cashiers are always friendly and sociable, but as someone who has worked in many kitchens and coffee shops myself, I see clear signs of negligence and apathy from the current baristas and "cooks". The quality of espresso drinks has incredibly diminished, and in my opinions is sadly becoming on par with your typical drive-through coffee kiosk. I am sad to say that I find myself questioning the likelihood of returning in the near future, which is quite a shame given that I've always looked forward to seeing my favorite baristas. I hope that the management/ownership of this location will take action to provide more training for their staff, and/or bring back the wonderful employees that made this particular location such a pillar of the Jacksonville community.
Also, as a friendly suggestion... please return the creamer/sugar station back to where it was before, by the door. Having it by the service counter has been congesting the pickup window and people have to squeeze through the service line, tables/chairs, or whatever in order to get to outside seating or leave. It was much better the way it was before,...
Read moreCute spot to sit for breakfast in Jacksonville. It was busy when we arrived around 10:30am on a Sunday morning. They informed us it would be about 30 minutes for food to be ready. You order at the counter and then the seating is first come first served - so then you take your number to a table. We found a table and snacked on a cheese bagel with cream cheese while we waited for our food. The bagel was delicious and tasted very fresh.
The drip coffee was good - the vanilla latte was decent. It was unclear of how to tell when the latte would be ready, so I guess it had been sitting on the counter for awhile before we went to check on it. My husband enjoyed the biscuits and gravy with eggs. My scramble was decent - the scrambled eggs were pretty bland, but maybe that’s intentional as you can add salt and pepper at your table if you’d like. They would then like if you clear your table at the bussing cart when you’re finished.
All in all - cute place to grab a sit down style breakfast in the heart of Jacksonville, within walking distance to several of the boutique...
Read moreGreat coffee spot right in the heart of Jacksonville, OR - super busy and that being said the staff are attentive and friendly. The food was better than I expected when we got it to our table.
I had the breakfast burrito and it seemed bigger or packed with more food than I'm used to. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned, I actually said to my Love "They actually put salt & pepper in the food" I've had breakfast burritos where you have to smother the burrito w/salsa & sour cream but this one I took a bite before any salsa added and it had a great flavor.
Had a lemon/coconut muffin which was all up my flavor alley - I love citrus and love coconut.
We had the bagel & lox which oh man the capers onions cream cheese & salmon wasn't even the best part - the bagel was fluffy yea I said it fluffy and a dream to bite into!! We picked up matching hoodies cuz why not - Marriage goals!...
